Hi.
I am in the process of upgrading the server of one of my clients, and require some expert knowledge, comments and suggestions.
My client currently has Windows Server 2003 installed on a 4 year old desktop server. They have about 20-30 users on the network, who mostly work with files stored in a shared folder on the server. We also have about 10 users who regularly make use of Pastel. We have a Pastel 'server' installation on the server, with client installtions on the 10 other machines.
Now we need to upgrade the hardware, and I am considering upgrading to Windows Server 2008 as well. I am considering upgrading to a 64bit environment, but I am not sure of the consequences of doing so.
Some questions:
1. Does the Intel Xeon processor/architecture support 64 bit? Does it support both 64 bit and 32 bit architectures?
2. Is it recommended to make the switch to 64 bit now, since seeing Microsoft will no longer be releasing any more 32 bit server OSs?
3. Will Pastel run on a 64 bit architecture? Is there a native 64 bit Pastel version, or will it and can it run in 32 bit emulation mode on the 64 bit arhitecture, and if so, is this recommended?
Thanks in advance.
