Vista Support

With default settings the router will assign you an IP just like it does on WiFi - just set your ethernet setting to automagic and you should be able to see the router.

As per usual, check the modem and the router firmwares are up to date. If the router is pretty old, then it is possible that the firmware is old enough to not know what the new card is. When the HSDPA cards first came out, the routers needed a firmware upgrade to see them.

Never had that particular problem but have read all over about it.
I loaded SP1 for Vista 32 and am now running what MS call "Windows Vista(tm) evaluation copy.Build 6001."
I have noticed a lot of improvements, mainly in speeding up everything that you do on Vista.

An update..Carel swapped out the Linksys router and also gave me a set up cd..What a major difference! Im now connecting on all 3 my bootable O.S !
Its a killer on bandwidth though what with all the updates and stuff..Had to get an extra Gig this morning!Believe me Ill use it.SP3 for XP is 667M.!
Oh,and the laptop connects via WiFi..
Ive also found that my upload speeds are up a bit.Is this just the time of year or does this happen via the router vs the pci adapter?

I see Vista SP1 (again) addresses problems with Vista not hibernating or coming out of sleep properly.

Anyone tried it yet?

RC1 is currently out. I'll wait for the final release due early next year.

Does anyone have the URL for the Huawei E220 vista firmware upgrade? Or can someone tell me what one to download from their site - they have no descriptions of the downloads as far as i can see...

hi.
i'm using vodafone 3g datacard with new vista sp1 install on hp compaq nw8440 notebook.
vmc 9.3.3.10523 installed without any glitches.
it starts up properly and finds card (fusion UMTS GPRS - 3G Modem).
asks me for pin, then searches for network.
then when i click connect, it does not and gives me that annoying 619 error. (yes, i read that other thread and no help there.)
i removed the device from manage devices screen and re-inserted card.
inserted pin again and tried to connect with same result.
i put the card back in my XP machine and it works perfectly.
any ideas?

Seems like the APN is not being set properly.

Go to Device Manger, right click the 3G modem and select properties.

In the Advanced Tab, enter AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet", and ok.

Then try to connect again.

i jus checked the VMC 9.3.0 compatability doc and it says minimum firmware required for GT 3G QUAD is 2.1.8 but when i check diagnostics in dash it says firmware on card is 1.5.5.

i'll try APN string first.
if that dont work, i'll try FW update and get back to you.

thanks for reply.

er...i'm a bit confused.
card diagnostics says its a GlobeTrotter Fusion Quad Lite.
vodacom download page has downloads for Option Fusion and for Option Quad Lite.
so which 1 is it then?

oh and APN string did nothing.
same error. and i have 4 bars signal.
also tried GPRS. same error.

What do the diags in the XP machine say? Have you taken the card out and looked at the details on the back? Post them here and we can see if we can help (IMEI not required).

Also check your Windows Firewall, and Anti-Virus settings. I found that in some cases(ESPECIALLY Norton 360), disables outbound connections by default.

XP diags say GlobeTrotter Fusion Quad Lite.
Firmware: 1.5.5 (may 17 2005)

back of card says a lot :)
option qualcomm
3G CDMA
model: GT 3G QUAD
UMTS/GPRS

XP APN is:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","mobile.is.co.za";
tried that in vista as well. no joy.

The APN needs to be AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet";

created rule for VMC in firewall...nothing.
switched off firewall completely and stopped firewall service...nada.
removed card. restarted notebook. inserted card. started VMC. tried to connect...ZIP!!!

so which FW update do i need for this card then?

that APN string does not work either.
but the card does work with that APN in my XP machine.
thats why i tried it in vista.
