You defended the 100MB so fiercely yesterday and now the entire VODASCUM is backtracking about the entire issue and now 500MB should be fine? Your "logic" changes daily and your posts prove that you post babble/lies/nonsense!
 
A RICA'd person downloading 30GB in two weeks on BIS can just as well openly advertise his/her piracy business. It falls in the same category as those going to sangomas to be made invisible before break-ins.

That's only a problem if you're assuming the 98% of the users, those who are only downloading 35mb per month currently, will suddenly change their habits en masse, and begin downloading things they previously had no interest in downloading when they were totally uncapped.

I set the bar where I did because it would never impact what I see as the traditional bb user, me. It would only affect the most egregious "abusers" which is apparently the whole point of this excercise. Vodacom gets to say 5GB, everyone will say wow, that's a good deal, and everyone walks away happy.

The only problem is that a court order is required to get the personal information from RICA.

My post can in no way be misconstrued to be directed at jannievanzyl personally and should be seen as it was intended, a suggestions to Vodacom and Vodacom employees in general.

Once we can see inside the data streams we can do the stuff you suggest. As I've mentioned before, we're not there yet but are working on it. The volume thing was always supposed to be interim.

Added: Oh, BTW - I never had anything to do with the poll. I did ask for feedback but never suggested any numbers for it. I do suspect if there was a 300GB+ button, it would've received the most votes. ;)

I'm pretty sure that in partnership with RIM you will be able to pin point problematic links and restrict them via the BB APN.

The whole selling point of the BB is the security of the data which means if Vodacom gets access that falls away. RIM from their side I'm sure will be more than willing to take the users you give them, analyze their usage and blacklist the websites that are a problem.

Still no need to throttle anyone with this option.

Vodacom and Pieter Uys need to be congratulated not condemmed for the manner in which way this problem was treated by his office. If this problem occurred in the days of Alan Knot- craig and Joan Joffe there would have been no press statement combined with the "Stuff You" customer attitude for sure.

The problem though is that if RIM/VC blacklists any websites that contravenes their "unlimited internet".
I really can't see a away around this abuse to be honest unless they go the legal route and take on the consumer with this.

Sorry, I just take your negativity to be abuse. You seem to be getting seriously worked up over something that doesn't need all this misspent energy. I applaud you for trying to stick it to the man, but I just find you unreasonable when it comes to this issue. They are trying to deal with the issue of all of us with BB getting ****ty service, cause of a bunch of chops abusing it. Clearly you have no idea how a GSM network works or the logistics it would take to actively monitor and administer action against even a small percentage of abusers amongst the 1.2mil subs. You have stated your point and are leaving their services, yet you are still here, adding to your massive post count, for what end?

vs

Torrent Websites used for nothing else but P2P sharing

I'm sorry but I don't agree with you:

Unlimited browsing in normal terms means you can browse to your hearts contents. It doesn't mean you can now go and watch child porn or donkey porn. Same with torrents, no where does BIS say unlimited downloads or streaming does it?

Isn't this a mute point, if the site is a site to download pirated / illegal material? That is like saying they have no right to block child porn sites...

Where there is a will there is always a way. RiSA and others know how to play this game. These abusers are drawing attention to themselves knowing full well that the service providers know who/where they are. When a bust happens and incriminating material is found then its bye-bye-Charlie ... with the identity of the informant protected (informant could be anyone).
