Vodacom developing eSIM support

The S9 and Note 9 series too - that article is out of date.
Many new expensive and mainstream phones has been released, but they do not show on the list. And even for supported phones service is breaking every month or so, you can't depend on. When going overseas get Cell C SIM and update with Cell C carrier.

In that case: WiFi Calling-enabled devices are: Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus

Vodacom support both Samsung Galaxy A5 & A7 2017 with VoWiFi and VoLTE. Must have Vodacom firmware though. Some Huaweii and Iphones also supported with both technologies.

SIM cards are technically dinosaurs by now and should go extinct.

Mobile networks should have a sign on process like public wifi. There is no need to complicate things like it was back in '93.

So how do I see when it's active?

The VoLTE sign will show up everytime when you are in 4G coverage. VoWiFi only works when the signal is bad. You can force that by putting your phone in flight mode and turning on your WiFi and the VoWiFi sign will pop up. Both must be provisioned by the Vodacom call centre. Sometimes have to try more than once. You'll get a sms to confirm it has been provisioned on your lineScreenshot_20180915-085737~2.jpegScreenshot_20180915-085642~3.jpeg

Is there any benefit to VoWifi, apart from when cell signal is poor?
Think of it as your own personal base station. Full signal calls. And if you are out of country and on WiFi same story and calls and sms's charged at local rates. No need to activate roaming or to buy a foreign sim.

Fair enough. But for the "average" user there is no real benefit. Seems like a niche service for those frequenting rural, or international, locations

So if Vodacom is developing support for eSIM's why do they disable the dual sim functionality on their phones?

Ok that makes sense why it doesn't work on my side. Thanks for the info.

The best advertising in the most exclusive phones. Dual SIM blocked on mainstream phones - numbers.
