Vodacom explains its higher prices

One truth in his explanation is Vodacom's better coverage compared to Cell C, other than that he is talking a load of BS!

I am with Cell C since 2010, from Vodacom, and I can safely say that Cell C's call quality is definitely better than Vodacom's, albeit by not much but the difference is audible.

The only problem with Cell C is their choppy network coverage, I hope Alan attends to it soon.

Everything else is in Cell C favour, Vodacom just can't compete and silly explanations like these only serve to embarrass Vodacom. They also show just how worried they are about Cell C's impact on their business.

i switched to cell c from VC 2 days ago b/c i was sick and tired of poor reception and slow speeds on VC.

early days still to comment on Cell C but so far so good, not to mention at much lower cost...

Sometimes Mr Patel it's better to just hou jou bek and let the people think you dom than to speak and confirm......

What a load of BULL ! I cant even get decent Edge in my residential area and at work I need to keep on running outside due to bad network.

Been with them almost 2 years, data only, and works great, moving to the new straightup package in December as soon as my contract expires for voice.

Not sure about the non metro centres, but for Pta, Jhb, CT and Durbs, Cell C works great, took the dongle with on holiday.

that people who move to Cell C or 8ta may not necessarily save money.

R15 = 100MB -Cell C
R49 = 100MB - Vodacom
R34 Difference!!!! Where am I not saving if I move to Cell C.:confused: I believe Vodacom has totally lost the plot now and are acting like staggering punch drunk boxer.Please please forumites spread the word that Vodacom has effectively given it's customers the finger.God!!Why anyone would stay with this network, I honestly don't know.

superior network and distribution channels

What are those?:D My sisters phone on Vodacom drops calls like leaking sleave when i phone her from a Telkom landline or is it the Telkom copper network at play.Bollocks!!! I'm not buying this excuse anymore especially with the smaller networks ever growing.

I wonder if he reads the comments here...?

Really? I mean REALLY REALLY?

...superior network performance, extensive network coverage and strong distribution channel means that consumers can expect to pay a premium for its services.

A PREMIUM? REALLY?

I thought all those qualities will lead to LOWER prices....? Think WallMart?

Dude? Seriously? Looking at the huge amount of negative comments on this article I'm sure you are doing the right thing.... NOT!

Or maybe you will see the one person that agreed with you and say: SEE? WE ARE MAKING SOMEONE HAPPY!

Your service is not poor! It is PI$$ POOR!

Alan's gonna kick your red a$$!

At my house:
CellC = ~14Mbps and 50ms latency
8.ta = ~7Mbps and 80ms latency
MTN = ~1Mbps and 100ms
VODA = ~2Mbps and 60ms..and the signal strength is excellent.

So, why would I purchase VODACOM data at a premium ? I wouldn't.
Unfortunately that is only the case in urban locations. In the rural areas you will be lucky to get above .3Mbps with any other service but Vodacom, while still getting 2 - 3 Mbps from Vodacom. I blame the other operators for only going for the easy pickings and leaving me as consumer with little choice :(

Fair enough. Many people don't mind paying more for higher quality. And their numbers substantiate this

Try telling that to VC customers that use BlackBerry's...the BIS never works and it is painfully slow

VC is going down hill and fast

Exactly,the BIS alone tells a tale, the large number of subscribers are probably due to vodacoms large marketing budget to make people THINK they have a more reliable network,yes they have more coverage country wide then say cell c or 8ta but that can be expected because of customer numbers for over 20 years.But 8ta and cell c roam on mtn and vodacom so coverage evens.

what a load of bollocks

So true.

The only reason why they charge so much is because they are the first network in South Africa, as a result they have a huge customer base since they have had more time to cover the country. Thus, they have a wider net to cast their net of swindle onto.

If 10% of their customers are unaware that they are being swindled, they are sure to make a profit.

Further, the fact that they have the largest coverage means that some people have no option but to opt for the exhorbitant prices they charge. With more people on the network they are the company that's got the largest economy of scale thus they should be charging much less than everybody else. But, NOOOOO. They use their monopoly in poorly covered areas to swindle people - the very people who have very little owing to their isolatedness and limited access to services and opportunities.

Shame on you Vodacom - to think that you are even trying to justify this makes you a rotten company to the core.

I just bought 100MB for R15!! on Cell C... This youtube vid is streaming very nicely
Oh and I just made a call for 99c and its "PEAK" time as you would call it on Vodacom can you believe that?? I can also call when I like and it will be 99c Can you believe that I don't have have to wait till 3am to make a call?

Now THATS what i call premium!

Patel said that Vodacom’s Internet Daily products should be seen as merely a start for the company, explaining that these products will evolve in time.

While we are taking it up the arse!

I have 500mb per month and loaded another 500mb this month.
Vodacom first uses the 500mb added (expires next month) and then uses the 500mb given to me (expires this month).
That does not make sense. I am sick and tired of picking up the soap!
