Vodacom explains its higher prices

I've long ago stopped using the Vodacom vampire for data but judging by the amount of dropped calls I get on voice, I'm questioning their claim of 'superior network performance'.

Especially at R1000/gig I'd be expecting my packets to arrive smelling like blossoms having being beamed to me in a ray of purified sunlight.

Cell C FTW

I am on Cell C, my wife is on Vodacom. Guess who has the better cellphone reception at home?

/Ill give you a hint, it starts and ends with a C. ;)

She loses signal constantly. I opened a ticket with Vodacom support, they eventually told me to go buy an antenna.

Hahaha Vodacom is really clueless! I have told everyone I know to move to Cell C.
I get better reception with Cell C and I pay multiple amounts less!

Have you even tried using 8ta or CellC's online service? Even if you don't have any data you can go onto their websites..
u can do this without having the modem plugged in? I somebody else can do it remotely? Cell-C & 8ta need to advertise this, or maybe i just havent checked... tks for the infos guys... i will go check it out.... maybe its more reliable than VC website :-)
still the signal coverage issue though, but others are getting there

That is the biggest crock of shyte I've read in a while Mr Patel...

I've started playing with CellC recently, their coverage in Durban at least seems to be MUCH better than Vodacom's.

Unless VC get their act together and get their pricing in line with CellC I will be leaving VC at the end of my contract.

The reasons they give are exactly why they should be charging less, if your networks are better it should cost you less to move the same or more data.

Donnerse vetkoppe...

The reason why they can't drop it to 15c is purely on numbers. like cutting profit by 150% on a few billion R is a LOT.
Cellc only has to do that on a small customer base and then make it up anyways just by sheers usage.

Their network is better cause they charge premium lol...= less usage = better network.

Back in the days when there was only Vodacom and MTN, Vodacom was known as the cheapest network, I was in high school and not everyone had a cellphone, we used Vodacom, unlike MTN, their starter pack was cheaper and it came with airtime, they also introduced packages like Vodacom4U, which was per second billing and MTN didn't have that kind of packages that made it possible for ordinary people to afford calling on a cell phone. Alan Knott-Craig was at Vodacom, and he made it possible for ordinary South Africans to own a cellphone, Vodacom has so many users today because their products were cheaper.

I live in Olympus, right at the end of Pretoria East, we have never had 3G, No video calling and skype since I moved here in 2008, When you call Vodacom they will tell you they don't have a cell tower here and it will take a while to have coverage in my are, I got fed up with this and ported to Cell C, not perfect but I'm happy, I don't have problems with Skype, I now use both 8ta and Cell C. I'm not gonna waste money. Now they have lost another CEO, it smell funny, and I won't eat it.

Fair enough. Many people don't mind paying more for higher quality. And their numbers substantiate this

Call me wacky, but in my personal experience, 8ta's network quality has been FAR better than Vodacom and MTN. So for me 8ta is cheaper and better and I don't have to travel to Pofadder so I don't need serious coverage. Heck, 8ta is even in my small home town of Ladysmith so yes, 8ta FTW.

I'm on vodacom for 10 years. I'm ready to port when my contract is done at the end of the year. The wife is on Cell C and she is happy. No issues.

Vodacom has said that its superior network performance, extensive network coverage and strong distribution channel means that consumers can expect to pay a premium for its services.

Is this the very same superior network that falls to bits here in Stilbaai where there are just a few visitors in town and crashes to unusable pile of shot from the first week in December until the first week in January? Must fix that 'i' key!

I think Phil Patel should think well before issuing this complete and utter load of eye wash!!

Wow what a stupid statement. To vodacom...."stop your people from saying things like this. It makes them look stupid and arrogant."
your service is not the best. Just look and the forum. all of them are cr@p at some days.
Remember it will only take a couple of big businesses to go somewhere alse and you could loose lots of contracts.

Top peforming network in my area by order:
1.Cell C
2.Vodacon
3.8ta
4.MTN (used to be number 1)
Vodacom you guys are cocky and I don't know what ya'll are talking about, all I know is I'm a new customer at Cell C and I'm happy

*wheeze* *gasp* *hiss*

Come over to the Dark Side, my son...

Spread the thread via email and drop the link to all your social network accounts people deserve to know how bad Vodacon is.

The same line NoChoice feeds us every no and again on why they charge so much for DTSV, and banks like Std and Absa when compared to Fnb, same for Telkom, the list of dinosaurs whose operating costs are so high, they can't be competitive anymore
