same problem!

I have same problem as nk1. got myself prepaid 2gig package - worked fine for the first couple days now I frequently have to retry connecting a couple times and sometimes when connected, there is no throughput. This happens both in Midrand(vodaworld central! ) and Central Jozies.

I use an apple powerbook with an E220 usb modem - log files say when unsuccessfully trying to connect :

Mon Apr 23 15:26:33 2007 : IPCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Mon Apr 23 15:26:34 2007 : sent [LCP TermReq id=0x2 "No network protocols running"]
Mon Apr 23 15:26:37 2007 : sent [LCP TermReq id=0x3 "No network protocols running"]
Mon Apr 23 15:26:40 2007 : Connection terminated.

Sucks!

I'm having the same issues with prepaid SIM on 2GB bundle. Gradually got harder and harder to connect, but have now not been able to get on since Thursdays.

Using Hauwei dialler application: stops at "transmitting packet", where usually it would then proceed to say "authentication successful".

Using VMC 9.1: get RAS errors 619 and 633 interchangebly.

Have rebooted, reinstalled, etc many times.

The whole setup works pefectly with an MTN SIM and the Hauwei dialler, so I'm ruling out hardward/driver conflicts.

Problems in Jozie Central!

After my last post - Have no hsdpa/3g signal at loveday street civic theater area. Good signal yesterday - have to connect on freeekin gprs and then only after a few tries of trying to connect.

Vodacom please get your act together.

It now appears that Vodacom has problems with prepaid sims using data bundles.
I tested the same hardware , with another Vodacom prepaid sim which I just activated and loaded normal airtime on. So I used the out of bundle rates to connect and it connected perfectly.

As previously mentioned the same hardware works like a charm with MTN & Virgin Mobile.

Further to this :

What will now happen to my data. I have not been able to use the data loaded on my sim, my expiry date for my remaining 450mb of data is coming up.

I will not accept losing my data, seen as it was purely through difficulties experienced by Vodacom and not myself or my equipment. Who can I take this up with, to ensure that my data gets carried over and I will not be penalised for not using it.

Voda SIGNAL overloaded?

Well it seems to me,.. 3g area, Natal,.. As soon as this bundle story came about, my Daytime Voda is basically useless,. im back on Virgin during the day,..
All the same symptoms,.. to Ping or not to ping,.. click certain links three times to get them going,..
Internet radio packs up after 5mb transferred,..

Seems to reflect the true integrity of the voda toweres we all thought were the best,.. well,. if 50% more daytime data users now,.. this is the problem we are experiencing,.. that this is occurring all over the country,.. imagine how many new data users voda has,.. i mean i was waiting for ages for these prepaid packages on voda,.. how many otheres,.

and to prove my point,.. log in after working hours,.. more business phones are down,.. and jees,. download upload, back at there paranormal rates,.. good ol voda3g,..

but only after dark,....

they should market their prepaid data bundles as afterdark bundles,..

but yeah,.. only other thing i can think is that prepaid is being capped as such,.. or contract data is being given preference,..!?
any comments on that!?

Voda SIGNAL overloaded? Dead more like it!!

Other than that,... SIgnal dead !! and how frustrating after having invested in the company,.. seeing as though we only have 30days to get the gear thru the wireless,. then it's just Dead,.. Dead,.. Dead,.. I cant connect at all anymore in the day, well where i am living,..

so do i have to drive around or what!?

So the moral here,.. Big Business,.. Small consumers,.

We paid the fellas,... We were lead to believe they had a bullet proof network,...

"We were lead to believe" - Never has Vodas Network been this shocking,..! i used to rave about it to mates as they pandered Virgin sims,..

Just plain can't handle the new traffic,..
Wow,. thats interesting,..
Shockingly so,..

Imagine how the airwaves must feel,. like microwave city,...

Hope something done about this soon,. otherwise Voda going to be having some comebacks,..

Is this just Pre-Paid Bundle Miserie!?

Is this just Pre-Paid Bundle Miserie!?

No such thing! I think after they went down last Thursday, like you would bail out water from a sinking boat, they just selectively chucked all the pre-paid data bundle folks. That's my belief.

So there is very few of us on the network currently, as none of us are able to connect using the data bundles.

Magically fixed!

Weird stuff

About 15 mins after I posted, 3G came back up and have not been having a problem since! Powerbook went to sleep and had to reconnect again - immediate and no problems!

Well hope it continues.....

500Mb Prepaid Bundle, still about 270Mb available, expires 17th May.

Been OK up to this morning. From about 10AM 619 errors and if I do eventually connect then looks like no DNS :(

Posting this on GPRS, that works fine

Bishopstowe Tower, Pietermaritzburg KZN. 3-4 Bar Signal.

There's been major problems in the Pta/Kzn areas this morning, got resolved but seems to be back again at the moment.

Will keep you posted.

i'm on a 2gig data bundle on prepaid and i've also been having losts of problems since last week (jhb). it can take 10 or more attempts to login and the line often drops or goes dead. i have between 4 and 5 bars on average so i can't imagine its a signal problem. its not consistant though sometimes i can connect for hours without a problem. very frustrating.

Slow here in Stellenbosch on 3G tower 22152 (-95dBm on Nokia 6680). Vodacom speed test gives 112 kbits/sec. During the first half of the test the speed was about 40 kbits/sec, it only seemed to improve during the last 30% of the test or so. I stopped the Sentech test after about 30 seconds, the speed was oscillating between 0 and 120 kbits/sec.

Sent 8 pings to telkom.co.za and got 2 timeouts.

It took 17 seconds to refresh the forum's page during which the speed dropped to 0 for a few seconds and then picked up again.

This is definately an isolated PPDB problem. Just did a test on my contract number and it connects perfectly everytime. On my prepaid number it takes several attempts to get it working. It's been over a week now and its getting extremely frustrating. Please can Vodacom do something about it! Why are they punishing people who have paid them large sums of money to use data on the network. Its unscrupulous if you ask me.

Vodacom 3G,

What is happening Bru??

It’s getting worse here in Stellenbosch central for sure. I am getting exactly the same thing as Ajax.

Timeouts all over the show. Local sites loading tens of seconds; lost connections more than I can count today. Reconnection failures all too much to keep count.

It’s becoming really aggravating.

My pal in Paradyskloof Stellenbosch on 3G contract reports 66 kbits/sec on the Sentech speed test. He's also using a 6680. I'm using his datasim by the way, so contract also. At least I can connect first time, usually.

Tried putting my contract sim in my data card after you said that and you're right, its infinitely better, no problems at all, whereas my prepaid sim with a data bundle was essentially unusable.

Speed wise no problems this morning at 6am. Vodacom test gives 366 kbits/sec. No time-outs on pings.

Is the network overloaded at peak times?

My prepaid simcard hasn't been able to connect at all for the last 2 weeks. I usually check my gmail on my phone, but no success. I wonder if this is related? Customercare thinks my simcard is broken.
If I try to connect through my pc I just keep getting "PPP link control protocol..." errors with my prepaid sim.

Update on the situation. I have been able to connect at least. 8 times in a row, why 8 times in a row you might ask , because the pages and downloads all kept on timing out.

When it eventually started loading pages. I started a download, with the sole intention of exhausting the bundle, so that I don't lose the remaining data on the bundle and so that I don't have to use it anymore. Well left it on and off to bed I went, this morning it has progressed to all of 2 percent. Althought I was "connected" I was unable to send or receive any data.

So there you have it. Please can I have a stable connection for one day only.

I promise to use up all the data remaining on my Vodacom sim. After that I will go away quietly and NEVER come back. I will make certain not to purchase data bundles, expecting it to provide me with a stable, dependable easily accesible internet connection from yourselves. So please just this one time, make an exception for me, let your data network work at least for little ol me.
