Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

My problems are specifically related to connection stability and getting the connection once made to send and receive data. It’s as if the line is just dead/inactive. Speed is great once a "live" connection is established. Once a good connection is lost however, it’s difficult to reconnect with a "live" connection. Very strange indeed. Neither my MTN nor Virgin sims did this. The Vodacom one was perfect for the 1st two weeks also. Hope this helps. Time is now 19h07, Saturday 21.

Got the same problem just now, and I wouldn't expect it so early in the morning. Connected, but then nothing would load. Did a nslookup and that failed. Disconnected and reconnected and then it worked.
Speed is fine though.

Since yesterday I'm battling to connect and the 1 time I did manage to connect nothing would load. So for the last day on my VM sim and no probs at all.

My area shows as Heidelberg-2 or Heidelberg Industrial. Using my N70. Can't do any tests 'cause VC sim doesn't wanna connect.

Vodacom oh Vodacom !!!!!

I had a Vodacom prepaid SIM card for a while now.

I tried out Vodacom internet on occasion but not regularly due to the R2/MB rates.

I was using MTN prepaid data bundles or Virgin Mobile in my Huawei E620 data card.

On Friday (20/4/2007), I decided to purchase a 500 MB bundle. On Friday night I was very impressed. The speed was very impressive. Burned 50 MB of my bundle in a blink !!!

From Saturday ... no 3G signal !!!!!!!
It come back for short bursts but is very unreliable.

I had to go back to GPRS !!! No EDGE in my area.
Even with GPRS I had to reconnect 2 or 3 times before I can access the internet.

My question is this:

  • Is this kind of instability of the 3G/HSDPA network normal, or is this a localized problem?

  • Are there any way to extend a prepaid data bundle (longer than the 1 month period), or to keep it on hold until this problem is sorted out?
BTW, I live in Pretoria in the Lynnwood area. According to Vodacom's data coverage map, There is 100% HSDPA coverage in this area.

:mad: :mad: :mad:

I think their network is having problems now. My gprs is cutting out since in this week.

There was a problem in the area last week, but that's been resolved, so it must be something localised.

Have you reported it to 155 or mailed customer care?

Also PM me your contact details and exact location.

Customer care keep telling me its a local problem and that they're going to get the tower here checked but it doesn't seem like its a local problem based on everyone's problems here?

Thanks V3G

Noticed that my HSDPA has been much more stable last couple of days :)

Having the same problems here in durban. It doesn't matter in which area i'm in. I've noticed that when i do get a connection, it attempts to send data but cannot receive. I disconnect and connect and after several tries i get a working connection. This is unacceptable as it's been happening for the past week! My data bundle is getting wasted!

What is going on??? Net is sslooooowww!

It took me almost 2 minutes just to open this page. Come on, what is going on. THe net is becoming slower and slower. Has Vodacom bitten of more than it could chew? My connection is the worst it has been in 2 years. :mad:

Downloaded =/- 300Mb in bergvliet today, 3g cruising nicely there. Back home in Rondebosch, still no 3g. and if there is, it uploads but cannot download.

hi, im in meyersdal.
when i do get a chance to connect i have full signal according to vmc signal bars.

but it takes me 30 -40 mins to connect, i keep getting a "port is disconnected" error alternating with "the device is not functioning"

but i noticed everytime i get error message it adds up on usage, i noticed the other night it went through approx 100Mb and didnt even surf the web or anything, almost 10Mb per error....WTF. :-(

im on pay as u go, 500mb bundle, so 100mb is alot to me.

when i do finally connect, it shows connected but cant browse sites nothing.

i disconnect and sometime it connects properly, and ill be on for about 2 hours then the connection stops(well stays connected, but no activity)

whats up with that, i havent ever had this problem till i moved to jhb, now all of a sudden it doesnt work.

10mb? So you mean 10 Mega Bytes per connection attempt?

If so, something serious is wrong. The connection process will take bytes, over a second or three.

Looks like you might be connecting but something is grabbing the line and transferring 10MB. Very weird and worrying.

How do you know it chowed 10M? Can you get the system to a Vodashop?

I am also unable to connect. Since last Thursday. The days preceding that I was able to connect perfectly without issue. I am using an e620 Data card to connect. I am able to connect using either my MTN or Virgin Mobile sims. without hassle. First time everytime with these two. However with Vodacom using my prepaid sim, I have had issues connecting now. "Connection failure" It is not limited to the area that I am in either.

We stay on the South of Jhb and having difficulties connecting there, wife took the sim and data card to her business during the day in central jhb, still no connection and then I went to a lan in benoni on Saturday, was trying to connect from there, still no luck.

When it connects intermittently I receive pages that time out.

I purchased the 1 gig bundle, with a pay as you go sim. The sim has been activated for data, I have also confirmed with the call centre that it is still indicated as active for data usage.

I have spent so much time on hold for a consultant to tell me that there is nothing wrong, now it tells me I have used up all my support time and have to call back on a different number that I will be billed for. Now that is just wrong man :( .

I have never had to call either MTN or Virgin Mobile after my initial calls to have both activated initially. Now it seems I am a regular at Vodacom's call centre.

Oh please do something about those consultants as well. Mr Intelligence himself informed me, "that the primary usage of the data bundles is for folks who want to download things from the internet, for surfing the net and viewing pages you use normal airtime. " He was so firm in his belief and all I told him could not change his mind.

Same Problem here in Sunninghill, JHB since last Thursday. Go a prepaid card and activated a 2Gig bundle - worked brilliantly for a couple of days and now I have to dial-up a couple of times and pray I'm able to connect. Same situation when I get to work in JHB city central. Something is definitely messed up!!

yup, 10Mb per attempt. the more u try attempt the higher it gets.
0.1Mb....escalating to higher amounts.
i have made sure every bit of software/updates the works is disabled, specifically because of bandwidth grabbing.
i do all my updates at work.

i was on 260mb usage, after 14 or so attempts it went to 362Mb.

again 2nite, almost 30min of trying to connect.

Something is very wrong. Can you get your laptop to Vodaworld?

i keep on getting 619 port is disconnected errors..

if i use the windows shortcut - 3g preffered connection - i can by trying 5-6 times in a row , get in..

and then its a case of does the DNS work...

connect()
{
if dns = "p00" then disconnect();
loop;
}

lol
