Could someone replace the streets in Bloem so that I can use the web in Jo'burg?

I connect but no DNS, No throughput...

Connection seems back to normal again. Connected with no disconnects yet and the speed is fine too.

Speed test:
Download Speed: 1213 kbps (151.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 160 kbps (20 KB/sec transfer rate)

Last night I couldn't connect after around 8pm but this morning it seems to be back...

Download Speed: 1777 kbps (222.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 329 kbps (41.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Happened to me 3 times this week ... :( (Randpark Ridge, JHB)

DNS errors abound again this evening. For some reason I decided to call 155 and had to fight tooth and nail to not get them to make millions of changes and check all my settings. After speaking to the supervisor they agreed to simply log the call.

IP: 10.60.9.52. PPDB, internet APN. Things were working from about 17:30 till 19:00ish. Been broken since then. Can't resolve anything. usual story... ref# s2-q7g3ddkcny

PS. Interestingly enough my SO's iphone can connect, so its either only affecting PP or 3G (iPhone EDGE only).

Yip ... Same here *sigh* How awesome would it be to have a connection that one could click "connect" and you could browse?

The 3G network may have a 99% uptime, but it seems that 1% is always during peak times - or when I use it. This is the 4th time this week things have not worked correctly in the 7 nights I've tried.

So you can connect on GPRS/EDGE, but not 3G? Sounds a lot like the problems I've been having:

Having trouble connecting to Vodacom in the 'hood on pre-paid, tried both internet and internetvpn APNs. There seems to be a long pause while the 'Registering your computer on the network' message is displayed, then the old 619.
Once I did manage to connect, but all DNS queries timed out. Been happening since about 21:00.
Update:
Continued until about 22:00. I tried again now (22:30); first time I connected got DNS timeouts, second time I was in.

I had this problem again last night around midnight. I tried connecting on GPRS/EDGE Only and got through first time, I was then able to change my connection type to 3G Only and continue surfing without any problem.

Is it possible that one can't authenticate on 3G but can on GPRS/EDGE, or was it just a coincidence?

OT: I now seem to be able to change from 3G to GPRS/EDGE without dropping my connection on pre-paid.

I don't think it's a coincidence, tonight I got three 619 errors in a row attempting to connect on 3G, then connected first time on GPRS/EDGE.

It's just happened again to me now.
Three failed connection attempts on 3G in a row (long pause while authenticating, then 619 error).
I then switched to GPRS/EDGE Only and connected first time.
I called up the mybroadband homepage, then disconnected (voluntarily).
I switched back to 3G Only and got another three failed connection attempts, same as before.
I switched back to GPRS/EDGE Only and connected first time and am now posting this.

@v3g: Any feedback on what could be causing this? My 3G signal strength is pretty high, around -63dBm.

Same problem as Morkhans here. Just could not get past the DNS errors last night from about 8 p.m. to at least 12 p.m. It was worse than Thursday night - I tried repeatedly, and couldn't once get beyond "local" access, although my signal strength is very good.
It is very frustrating that when we phone 155, they do not admit that the problem is a Vodacom one and theygo through the standard procedure of trying to adjust settings, which does nothing. They would inspire a lot more confidence if they said they were aware of the problem, or even knew what was causing it and said that something was being done about it.
Same as Morkhans, back to normal this morning.
Just hope tonight is not the same as Thursday and Friday night.

Did you try connecting on GPRS/EDGE Only?

It's been some time since I visited this thread.... What is going on here (cutoffs, local connections, no DNS, 619, 688 etc) sounds very much like what I have been experiencing on GPRS (no 3g etc etc out here) over the past month. I eventually got a request logged with the help desk (via [email protected] - gave up trying to find my way through 155) and after a raft of the usual questions, changes, reconfigs, including downloading and installing the latest VMC (which does not find my data card now) it has finally been referred to the network division with a promise that they will get to it within a month.... It definately seems as if this bigger that just my lowly tower???

When did Vodacom introduce 12hr internet?

When did Vodacom introduce 12 hour profiles?

I haven't been unable to access the tonight, Saturday night & pretty much 80% of the times I try log on.

@Dolby, yes that's exactly my experience. I think we will be moved to another thread. But I am so frustrated with this. I'd like to hear what is being done about it.
If not Error 619s, then many, many, many DNS errors. Trying to get a web page becomes a full-time activity.
We do need internet in the evening.

I'm on an international chat forum and the SA connection is a bit of a joke on the forum.

V3g,

Think you may want to check the albertsville tower to see if all is okay. Had power failure last night and when i woke up this morning there was very weak/no signal on both my phones.

YIp - tried this morning again.

I need to register for UNISA before the 26th and it's been dead everytime I sit down to use it (after hours). I have to ask my IT department to unblock the site or go to someone with a decent connection. This intermittant problem has happened for for just over a week : 7/10 times 3G is dead.

Vodacom may laugh at MTN with their fake or limited use of 3.6 and 7.2 towers - but they're probably laughing at the amount of times the Vodacom network has crashed!
