No, that is not it. I am on contract. Ever since I moved to my current location (Table View, Cape Town) a year ago my connection has been flawless. But the last week or two I have had endless problems. One moment it works fine, the next it is so slow that most web pages fail to load, broken images, etc.

Barnett

Did you report this to 155? Sounds like a different problem to the one above. Might be a specific coverage issue in your area.

Somehow I don't see this being a coverage problem.

I'm in Bothasig (10km from Table View) - I haven't had problems since getting my contract in September - but for the last 4 or 5 days my speeds have been close to dead, I can't access webpages (they keep timing out), can't access my POP3 mailbox ... I'm reaching new levels of frustration here.

Anybody care to tell me how to cancel my contract ... ?

I called vodacom yesterday and a technical dept called me back today, the more I explain that this is a network problem I`m having in milnerton area, he tell`s me that he thinks the problem is with my modem(cell phone), Good gosh I told him to go have a look at "mybroadband.co.za" to see how much people is having a problem with HSDPA speed. The last 4-5 days I`m really having the worst HSDPA speed I ever had.

Did not say your problem was coverage ;)

BarnettE stated he's been having a problem for 2 weeks, while the problems you saw are over the last few days, so I think his problem might be something different.

I've been testing all day and never get under 1.5Mb/s in Plattekloof (on contract).

Those of you who said you're on contract above, can you please post the type of contract you're on? The hybrid type contracts actually run on the pre-paid systems and this *might* explain your symptoms.

I am finally online in my new spot. I was really upset after setting things up yesterday for the first time only to discover the net completely sucked, I was worried that it might just be my new location, so I phoned ginggs and he was having similar problems (thank goodness!). Anyway things are looking good this evening. Occasional page reset, and the ads are still broken, but otherwise things are good!

Scary when you're *happy* that something is wrong. :)

Well what would you do if you had just moved into a new place and your connectivity choices came down to:
Vodacom - No throughput whatsoever
MTN - GPRS
ISGS (Now Vodacom GS) - really expensive and not that quick

This is becoming upsetting.I have 3g signal,My speed test reveals 371 download and 42upload.But browsing the internet is a pain.I mean for a 3mb file its gonna take 1hour and 23 minutes.
I am also getting these errors
Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: "Address not available"
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team-vodacom:D

This has been going on for 2 days and i cant get work done.:(
I miss my telkom:rolleyes::eek:

Literally just down the road from my old place. I can see the one from the other, but the building dynamics are a bit different here. I have less line of sight from the various points in the flat than before. I have the router setup next to the window in the study with the little external antenna press-ticked to the window :D

Yes, things are getting progressively worse for me too and I also need my connection to feed myself. I can't even download a 300kb pdf file. Come on Vodacom, there is obviously something seriously wrong here. Get your swat team onto it.

It's also very frustrating that the call center agents always treat you like you are the only person experiencing the problem. Obviously serious communication blockages in the support department and very weak change control procedures.

Help, I thought it was just me for a while, I'm on a 2gb p/month contract tied into my weekender contract and I've bee having the worst ever throughput for the last few days. It can't just be my location. I live in Seapoint and work in retreat, and I've been trying every area I could.

Every file I try to download times out and every webpage requires 10 or 20 refreshes before I get anywhere. this is worse than dial-up!

From all the posts here, definitely looks like it. Busy following up. I understand that some changes were made yesterday to resolve it but obviously it did not help everyone.

Of course you have the right to rant. A few hours of erratic connectivity is acceptable, but a few days is totally unacceptable. And it shouldn't be up to us to waste our time fault finding for Vodacom. Their monitoring systems should alert them to faults before we have to rant. They should actually pay us for ranting. I think I'll send them an invoice for the amount of time I have to spend on this forum and listening to Toto singing Africa as I wait for someone to answer my ranting phone calls. Unfortunately we have been conditioned to expect poor performance from telcos despite the fact that we pay some of the highest rates in the world for their services. It's not right. We should be marching in the streets.
