I would like to know the signal strength for this area? Often 3G connects and drops to zero strength or reconnect on GPRS.

after reading your link i called 155, there is an automated message stating that there are 3g/internet issues in "southern gauteng" so i guess that's the problem.
Hopefully it'll be fixed soon!

Is that where you are?

AFAIK, that problem is resolved. Can you work now?

oh ok. sorry didn't know its northern gauteng then it means i must not be having this problem!!!

What is going on?

I tried getting on the net at 5 and from then only HTTP protocol works nothing else. Fring doesn't support HTTP(WAP) Either so we're having the same problem.

I just hope they get an answer quick.

I wouldn't be surprised if vodacom disabled that protocol cause its loss of income.

the dark world of isp conspiracy :)

yes, it's confusing that vodacom have acknowledged this problem in southern gauteng, but it seems to be affecting us non-southerners...

guess i'll just use mtn for now

Tell me about it.

It's often really difficult to provide support when people accuse you, basically to your face, of these kind of things. Sometimes I think I must just stop providing support on this forum and let the normal support channels handle it. But then I realise it's just the immaturity of some people....

Did Vodacom acknowledge this *specific* problem in Southern Gauteng? I did not listen to the 155 message, but I strongly doubt if it is the same problem.

The SG problem was probably something like a major transmission failure affecting a wide area (to end up as a master fault) while it seems you're seeing a port-specific problem.

Please PM me the exact details as per my sig. I already got Peder's PM and want to escalate both at the same time. I suspect I know what the problem could be.

According to the 155 message the problem is with "3g/gprs and hsdpa internet connectivity in southern gauteng"

so it sounds like the same thing to me.

will pm you details

If I understand your problem correctly, you're working ok, but *specific* applications (those that use custom ports, it seems) are not working.

The GS problem (which has been resolved) would have been total loss of service, I suspect.

I suspect it's a firewall / routing change that's causing your problem.

oh ok. Kewl.

Why is it only happening to certain people and not everyone?

Let's first find the cause and then speculate ;)

Can both of you please try and remove the proxy setting from the APN settings on your phone and test again?

well "working ok" is subjective i suppose.
my most important application, email, is not working :(

also it seems like only opera can connect, the built in nokia browser is not having much success.
