So... back to the issue of shaping, um, seems to be a BIG problem now. Atleast for me. I am moving so sorry to say, getting DSL. I was quite happy with HSDPA for a while, but something has gone wrong and it seems like a huge step backwards has been taken.

I can sit and chat in teamspeak, but as soon as I try and join Crysis or Americas Army or any such game, my conenction gets strangled. And even if I had just downloaded a file at say, 300k a second, that same connection cant handle the game. *sigh* I have opted to migrate to a smaller package seeing as I will be getting DSL (that and the area I am moving into doesn't have HSPDA coverage, oddly enough) but I would even consider canceling the package altogether. This is frustrating. Anyways, I have no idea what is up with the network as of late. Maybe it is just me but... ja.

:/

Dude u make a valid point i dont get it, pings are perfect to google (ie 300ms with the occasion time out). Loading pages and getting d/ls no probs but if i launch WoW something clicks over and cheers latency goes through the roof. Cant see how this isnt shaping...

Your 3G/HSDPA service $uck$

I am sooooo p1ss3d off right now.

Please vodacom3g and the rest of the gang, don't take this personally, but for F^%$^ SAKE, how long can this *** excuse for 3G/HSDPA service continue...

Vodacum just cost me R2500.00 on silversands due to disconnects.

How long is this *** going to continue?

Are they even working on these issues. I know they say they are, but come on now ..... it's been months and we still see the same **** every freakin day.

Is MTN also this bad?

I'm in Brackenfell on PPDB using HTC Touch Diamond, AS IF THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Hi

Don't bother with voda with respect to using it as a connection for poker. I've been playing online (social) poker for over a year now, and there are constant disconnects.

A mate of mine, who has played in the last three All Africa tournaments, swears by iburst.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING

Dropping to day again. Couldn't connect initially either from a fresh boot.

Dropping at least 5 times a day now, and if the connection doesn't drop there is no through put - YOU ARE COSTING ME MONEY!!!!!

What happened to the stable connection I experienced the last 6 weeks!!!!

If I didn't need a mobile connection I would have migrated long time ago!!!!

At this moment in time for me, in as much as vodacom was cool for a period, my experience of wireless internet has only helped me realize that it is pretty much only really good for a few things, and gaming is not on that short list of things. This is my opinion.

I will be staying clear of any sort of wireless connection from now on out if I can help. We have come a far way from the old days of dial-up, but wireless has been weighed, measured and been found sorely wanting. I haven't tried any other provider, admittedly. But I do not wish to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe iBurst and Neotel are great. I don't know, and I don't wanna know. This past year has been a year of absolute frustration internet-wise for me. But ja... i do wish vodacom well on improving there network.

My only thought is this... living in Joburg, I still can't believe that there are areas, in the city or in well developed sections, like Cresta for example, that don't have decent cell signal and the best wireless net signal is GPRS.... or if you are lucky, 1 bar of 3G... :/

As far as I know.....Gaming & VoIP = fixed line....reason.....3G cannot offer a Quality of Service like fixed line can. It's a wireless service. I see people on these forums who complain when gaming and stuff, but it's a wireless service. What do you expect. Sure it might be fine sometimes to game, but it's not a guaranteed Quality of Service. Not yet anyway.....

Just my 2c.

ADSL is not guaranteed at all either. The problem with wireless is the technology. By its nature it increases latency, towers get overloaded and their footprints change.. all effecting signal quality.

Wireless can and does run QoS.

Poor Vodacom's 3G/HSDPA service is in its chops today ....

timeouts galore!!!!

and to top it all, im getting sms's from VC saying that i have 4mb data left and costs are now being deducted from my account even though I still got about 100MB left ....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Some crazy $h1t happening... Must be VC's festive spirit kicking in ...

Agh well, thats all I can , just laugh it off ...

Oh, btw, i'm in Parow East, on PPDB using HTC Touch Diamond via USB on my laptop ...

May the force be with us all ...

Im out .. peace!!

Not yet on the current GSM / UMTS implementations. Mostly because it's not a pure end-to-end IP solution. LTE will give that and WiMAX as well.

But then you still have to content with physics, as you pointed out.

Yip sadly my days of wireless are at a end, it has been 2 years of constant hassle and no end in site. Iv had to fold and telkom is installing this week...

The thing is although this is wireless the reliability has proven itself before, 85% of my hassles have been with VCs backend/network and the last 15% the tower (which if it is the tower its sorted in a 24hr period).

Whats up with 3G in Cresta

The 3G in Cresta, Randburg suddenly seems to have died on us. I can not even get into GMail or most other sites.

After 5 mins of connection I only transferred 199KB of data????:mad:

mmm, seems to have be getting somewhere for a few seconds every now and then but then it dies on me yet again!

Please, I need my 3G to follow the cricket score at 10, this client blocks the cool live scores sites.

It was also patchy for us yesterday in Cresta. Do you generally get good speeds there?

Generally no problem, yesterday we had no issues here. Don't know what's up today, I have 4 bars coverage.

GMail seems to be fine now but I still can't get to sites like myBB via my 3G yet. This started to happen around 6:30 this morning

I sent an email to V3G. Looks like they have had some issues. I am back on 3G now, so it looks like they may have sorted out the problem.

There is/was a problem this morning that will affect some pre-paid users. One (of a number) of the pre-paid systems is stressing and some pre-paid users will battle to connect or, if connected, might not be able to work.

The guys are obviously trying to resolve ASAP.
