Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Keep in mind, my previous posts that a number of upgrades must happen over the next period and the Saturday one only being the first.

It seem to have already made a big impact on the disconnect problem, but I still expect at least another two (of the 10+) to go in before sanity will return.

This is on the 'disconnect' problem.

I'm still keen to get feedback on international throughout.

V3G Any news on RDP (Port 3389) I have not been able to connect to any of several servers local/international for over 24 hours now. This is severely hampering my work. Please let me know. Have emailed you as well about this. Cheers.

Hi V3G, any ETA on when the "2" of the "10" are being implemented before I lose my sanity completely? The disconnects granted seems to be fixed. As far as international throughput it seems fast at times and slow at others, the same seems to happen with local connectivity too.

cant connect to any router up and running on the unrestricted apn keeps giving me timed out been going on for the past three weeks now understand new systems are going in but we have work to do and clients to keep happy so we can pay for our 3g connections dont help when it does not alllow traffic through.

The next batch is scheduled for this week, don't have exact dates but probably towards end-of-week.

PLease keep an eye on throughput and let me know if you see consistent low speeds.

Got your mail, will respond just now. Been stuck in meetings....

Just want to add, the stability of 3G in the Centurion area is horrible! . Been going for the last week..

Symptoms:

a] connect fine, but nothing happens . Signal also fine.
b] Connected fine, get a good burst of internet, then nothing [no disconnect], after awhile it would mysteriously get some internet again [all in one session].

I am in Centurion, using Option Globtrotter HSDPA. Get the same results via Windows XP and Ubuntu .

GPRS works fine however...

Since 17:33 I have been unable to connect - some 619 errors, mostly the link would come up but no data received (not even pings and dns responses). Both in Midrand and at home - Boskruin.

still rocking and rolling, network has been fantastic the entire day which is a welcome relief conisdering all the disconnects error 619 etc of only a week ago!!

lovely. hasn’t been this consistent in over 3 months. there is no perceived decline in speeds after 7pm either which is an area where the network has suffered in the past so whatever mods have been done they seem to be working... for now anyhow...

Same problem here. Network has been acting up since sunday, allthough when it came back on sunday night, I started recieving full 3G signal and besides the odd disconnect and above problems, I've had good speeds since.

EDIT: Prepaid Nokia 6680

@V3G - is this a result of the upgrade process or is it just an overloaded network?

I'm going to say it again; I don't believe we're out of the woods yet. The work done over the weekend is actually doing more than what I expected (on the disconnect problem), but don't expect full recovery till later this week.

Telkom seems to have fixed some problem on their their international links as the bandwidth suddenly came back last night.

Tried again. Connected fine.

Upload Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

3 - 507/160 469ms

(Big slowdown getting into SAIX - between 1 and 2 - but not much difference in between 2,3, and 4 despite the longer pings.)

I have been having disconnects last night and the night before at around 9pm and then after that I get errors (916 and 31) By the next morning all is fine again.

Other than that it has been flying.

Wolfie, same here in Irene.

I took Vodacom3G's advice and logged a call with the data helpdesk this afternoon - hopefully we will be compensated for this mess.

Plenty of "server not found" and "connection was reset" errors this evening (Centurion).

Lots of DNS request timeouts this morning :(

Maybe I should finds another tower to point my antenna at ?
