Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Last night was really cr@ppy. Throughput was slow and I sat watching those 2 little pc's in the bottom right hand corner of my screen (it's looked like a game of tennis, then the one would light up and blink out followed by the other one).

I am an online editor and need 24 hour access mobile Internet for work so I decided to go with a pre-paid data package (I didn’t dig the idea of going with another contract!) from Vodacom's 3G and bought the wireless modem! (R2200). Basically I load airtime onto my sim card then transfer the airtime I load into 3G data through my cellphone each month using Vodacom's cellphone data transfer service. I have using this service without problems for the past five months, then all of a sudden, from Sat - Mon last week (29 September - 01 October), I repetitively got automatically disconnected while trying to connect...

I had only recorded 180 MB used with 820 MB of data remaining over the next three weeks. It did not occur to me that all my airtime loaded onto my sim card was depleted as it was only eight days after loading MyGig1 (1 GB). Also, I was getting a good signal but it just didn't get past the 'authenticating' part. So, confused, and a bit bummed, I phoned Vodacom (083 111), provided them my sim card details and asked them why I can't connect...

After checking out my record on their system they said that I had used all the R320 airtime I had loaded on my phone and that I needed to load more airtime to connect.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!! I was shocked. I remember clearly got the confirmation that the MyGig1 successfully loaded a week before and that I had a month to use the data! Has anyone else experienced this problem before?

I now have to fork out another R289 to buy more data and I’m afraid to use their mobile cell service to do this...

So bummed bru!

If you got confirmation, there will be a record of it. Log a request for a refund.

How's this for HSDPA speed:

Download Speed: 141 kbps (17.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 32 kbps (4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Very far from acceptable and even further from the claimed 1.8Mb/384Kb.

I've been having problems connecting again the past few days... well, past few evenings, actually.

On prepaid, GPRS, browsing on phone, in Cape Town. Will see how it goes over the weekend, but I hope we aren't going to go through another difficult period like before :(

Here we go again:

Vodacom Speed Test:

3G preferred

D/Load: 175kbps
U/Load: 152kbps

E620 + External Antenna

Signal Strength: -61dbm

Location: Top right hand corner of my post

Not going to even bother with an international speed test

GPRS Only:

The speed test doesn't even start ...

VC Inoperative again on a weekend

1) Page cannot be displayed.
2) Connect but no down traffic.
3) APN=internetvpn performs better than APN=internet. But still page timeouts.
It's weekend again! VC doing unscheduled maintenance and upgrades again!!?
I am loosing data bytes again. And infact I have paid for it in advance nogal!!. On contract I had a choice not to pay due to BAD SERVICE, which certain people don't appreciate that.:p :p
When you get everything for free then poor/bad service is not an issue. IMHO

I'm having a blast here in Irene.

Switched to my ADSL line when I couldn't connect on my 3G. For a 384k line is loads pages way fast than 3G.

Connection problems

Not that I know about. I'm fine in Plattekloof, so will check.

Hi the V3G ,i still got a 0.02 mb in my bundle left, and I cant connect on the internet using my cell as a modem, trying to use my cell to go on the internet and having error message of "Authorisation failed" is there no ways that vodacom can cancel that 0.02 mb that is on my bundle.

What is your current monetary balance?

This is a stuff-up we're busy fixing, this problem that if you disconnect within the last 500KB, you're stuck with a 'stuck' bundle.

Phone 155 and ask them to 'reset' your bundle so you can buy a new one. Not sure how they do it, but they told me they've got a procedure.

You could also try to put some money into your account and then connect just long enough to eat up the last few bytes of your current bundle. This should kill it, so you can buy a new one.
