I have the same issue in Joburg, I'm staying in the eastrand.
Lately, my connection has been down most evenings, if not down, transfer rates are really slow, with pages timing out etc. Its usually fine during business hours tho.

Same thing here in Centurion. It happened right now (lunch time on a sunday...), so i'm back on my MTN sim. Basically it connects fine, detects HSDPA/3G...but nothing happens..no data flow.
And yes,im on a prepaid sim too.

My prepaid sim connection freezes and I have to disconnect and connect again to get some(ssslllloooooowwwwwww) traffic flow.
However, when I use my company contract sim, there are no problem for days!!

The problem definitely lies with the prepaid sims.

I dont care what Voda(tel)kom says.

I posted this in another thread, but I guess it also belongs here:

I went away for a week and returned home yesterday, only to find that throughput has dropped to a trickle!! Speed tests (both VC and speedtest.com) are excellent, yet the throughput is frustratingly low!!

What's up with this, Vodacom?

Okay, just found v3g's explanations. I hope they resolve this problem very soon!!

It's damn frustrating, to say the least!!

I don't know what's up with vodacom right now. However, I'm going to go buy a mtn prepaid just now and if they are fine it will be the last time I use vodacom.

Huawei E272

I'm heading that route too - keep us posted as to the reliability of the connection please.

Does anyone know whether an MTN sim works in the Huawei E272 modem?

And, after an extremely frustrating weekend, everything seems back to normal this morning!!

Can anyone please explain to me that, despite the slow throughput yesterday, I managed to download a 350mb file in under 1 hour last night (via torrent)?

what im battling to understand is that this is a consistent problem. Every night round 7 the same thing starts and it generally carries on till 11pm. So why cant VC do something??

Again tonight its the same BS...

January cant come sooner, so i can be done with this contract

Correct! I had great throughput all day until around 19:00.

What devices do you'll use?

I used to have the same problem when connecting via a mobile phone, but generally have much better service with a Huawei E220.

u know we had this exact problem this time last year and then something would happen and maybe 2 months of sheer bliss. Then it would go back to the same crap...

Funny thing is i went to check the MTN forum and u hardly see ppl bitching about data, where here we have a dedicated thread 223 pages long. What is so different with MTNs connection over VC?

I havnt updated the software on my dads card...but it takes forever to actually start VMC up and connect to the internet.

I hate it

Wish i could, but its a company card. My dad not allowed to install anything on his laptop(also owned by company) unless the IT guys approve it.

this issue is not pc based software. I use mobile partner and the MDMA software provided on this site. I have the same hassles with all products, this is something based on VCs network. My suspicion is congestion and what grates me is the fact that VC will continue to sign ppl up regardless of this mess.
