Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

I was hoping no-one had discovered our secret 3G bonding device which allows us to DoS a tower. We are however finding that funding is a bit of a problem. Any chance of some better pricing on bundles so we can continue the good work? :D

You want us to fund you being a DoSO (Denial of Service Operative, pronouced '****')?

Maybe DoS is too strong a term to use? How about "conveniently dedicated tower due to temporary high capacity use and world domination aspirations"
This entire sketch has become extremely silly and I won't stand for it. We will now switch to a lovely outdoor sketch

We moved our office a few months ago, and everyone depends on 3G for connectivity until our ADSL lines are sorted out. Since 13/03, we have all suffered constant disconnects and 619 errors. Before, we had consistently good HSDPA connectivity, but now all our connections flip between 3G and HSDPA every few minutes, until it drops completely. Generally all of us are affected at the same time.

This is in Observatory, Cape Town. I have motivated that we cancel our contracts with Vodacom, so they've lost just under 100 contracts due to their poor service.

Vodacom3g, I will PM you my details. Perhaps you can ease the pain until we've all moved on.

It's likely a tower dropped off the grid, but Vodacom's pretending nothing's wrong at all. Anyone know the real reason?

Router & external outdoors antenna, perhaps with a corporate APN for mobile users.

What are the indoors & outdoors uplink speed test results when this happens?

Will check tomorrow. When the connection drops, we can't connect to anything, so it might be hard to hook the speed test site ;) Also, I am very hesitant to spend money on anything for a temporary fix - a Neotel Dataflex connection is just around the corner.

Besides - we had no issues until 13/03. I'm almost certain a tower in the N1 City/Mowbray/Claremont/Obs area died, and Vodacom has compensated by spreading everything thinner. Else they've reduced the coverage to accomodate Neotel. Very sinister.

That does not make any sense.

For sure. But having had some insight into their inner workings, I know that many decisions Vodacom makes are bereft of logic.

Perhaps we're just being affected while Neotel cuts into the network.

Neotel partners with Vodacom, MTN and Cell C to share tower infrastructure.

Neotel CEO Ajay Pandey recently announced that his company had partnered with MTN, Vodacom and Cell C to share tower infrastructure to deliver telecoms services to clients. According to Pandey, infrastructure sharing makes sense from both a financial and logistical point of view, and allows providers to rather compete on other aspects such as price, service quality and brand awareness.

High site approvals and acquisitions are also becoming increasingly difficult and infrastructure sharing can alleviate many problems associated with rolling out a wireless network. This makes particular sense in Neotel’s case where consumers are growing increasingly frustrated at not being able to get access to Neotel’s services.

According to Neotel these partnerships only go as far as tower and infrastructure sharing, but the company did not give details about the cost of sharing infrastructure or the terms and conditions of the agreements. It is also understood that while Neotel lays fibre to each of the towers it uses, there is currently no backhaul capacity sharing between Neotel and the cellular providers.

This announcement comes only weeks after the company revealed that it has partnered with MTN - and potentially Vodacom - to build a national long-distance fibre optic network. This network will connect all major centres across South Africa.

Also please PM me the reference numbers you got from 155.

What did they say about the problem?

That's flipping excellent.

I smell a 7.2 modem being throttled to 3.6?

I just have it bad...

Its been like this ever since i activated the 3.6 Profile start of March. I've never gotten anything above 1.7Mbps. But before this, on the 1.8 Profile i used to 1.8 to 2.0Mbps 95% of the time(with an E220).

Using a K3520 at this stage.

What profile is MDMA reporting?

I enquired 'internally' on several occasions, both with the voice and email data depts, so did not get a reference number ;)

They were not aware of any issues. I am also escalating it through our account manager at Nashua mob.

So you did not log a call with 155? I'm not sure what your "winky internal" path is, but it probably makes sense to use the correct channels?

In any case, sounds like you've already canceled your account? So I guess there's not much we can do anymore.

Still waiting for your PM, by the way.

It's a bit hard to post a PM when my connection drops every 5 minutes

We still have to wait until several accounts expire, so I'll appreciate any assistance you can provide.

With 'internal' path, I meant I spoke directly to contact centre agents, rather than waiting in the queue.

Not to sound dumb... How do i check this?

I downloaded MDMA, it shows somewhere on the app 'Assigned Profile' with zero's in it.

So i assume i need connect to the internet while MDMA is connected to my device and open, and then do a speed test?

No, just connect with MDMA and once you're connected you'll see number like 1408 for uplink and a number for downlink. Top to Middle right. What are these?

Maybe post a screenshot. But you must be connected.

Just connect using MDMA and the profile section will show your profile;).

Why do people try to resort to blackmail tactics when all you have to do is just ask nicely?:D
