I was just wondering, I have a cellphone which is sorta falling apart, I've had it for almost 2 years so it's understandable - my phone has seen alot! :)

Question is, I'm due for a upgrade I think in August (give or take a month) and I'm keen on prematurely doing an upgrade.

I'm thinking maybe Vodacom will charge me a 'penality' fee or something but;

1. Do they/can they do this for me?
2. How much is the penality fee if they do?

I'm on a weekender, been on this contract since like, 2000±.

Vodacom3G - can you help a brutha maybe? lol! :)

Why not phone them and ask for your upgrade date? I have been surprised in the past that they were willing to upgrade me 2/3 months in advance just to retain me as a customer! Without penalty...

Don't need to do that, I have a friend who works in Vodacom Customer Care and she told me my upgrade date, along with that, I used the SMS feature and my upgrade date is 2009-08-16.

I could take a new contract and then cancel this one when the date comes, but ag, I have a love for this number and was just hoping that V3G might be able to (yeah, trying my luck) give me some advice on getting this 'special' treatment.

My phone is seriously falling apart! haha.

Oh, befores it's suggested, yes, I could get a cheap R150 phone and use that, but it's not actually the phone calls I'm worried about (granted, my battery dies fairly fast) it's the ability to check and reply to work related e-mails on the phone that is the important part.

So my upgrade would have to be a phone that can do that - and of cause, more.

Got a premature upgrade 2 weeks ago for the same reasons. I think my actual upgrade was also August-ish. They looked at average monthly payment, and because I use 2 Gig + every month, using my phone as a modem, mine was quite high. Go to a Vodashop and ask... you've got nothing to lose.

I think you can upgrade around month 20 or 21. Check with a vodashop.

What phone are you after? Just got my Nokia 5800. So far suitably unimpressed......

Well, haven't really thought about what phone yet. Just wanted to know / try organise first. It's pointless trying and then being told 'no' and then all the 'research for the new phone' would've been a waste of time.

I'll call a Vodashop tomorrow and ask nicely :)

I'm not really a big spender but something tells me that is going to change because of my new job.

PM me if you need help. But ask a shop first.

5800 touch screen is a joke and looks like a cheap plastic toy, my friend got it for two weeks, sold it and got the Touch Diamond.

I was more or less in the same contract position, also Vodacom. What happens is that they "extend" your new contract, so that it ends 24 months after your existing contract. Seemed fair to me.

Does feel very flimsy compared to the Blackberries and iPhone. Biggest gripe is the second or two delay for it to switch between landscape and portrait. And I thought the Storm was slow! :)

But I'll first use it for a few weeks before making up my mind.

Hi all,

Nah, was told the following by the 2 Vodashops I called;

1. Only 7 days before UNLESS
2. I have a average spending of R1000 then 'maybe' they could look into it.

So... I guess no is the answer! :(

Anyways, PM'ing you V3G :)

After chatting to Cellucity in Waterfront, Vodashop in Waterfront, a few other people, I called Vodacom upgrades and they tell me they don't do premature upgrades anymore, yet, everyone tells me they do.

*sigh*

Vodacom upgrades only want to upgrade my contract to Talk 500 (R800 sub a month) in order to help me, no other way... complete BS if you ask me!

Go to a vodashop or cellucity that you haven't already been to and tell them that you received an upgrade sms but you not sure if you're due for an upgrade. When I upgraded my contract I heard a few customers say that and got upgraded. I think some sms' were sent prematurely. Worth a try I think.
