Vodacom versus MTN: Mobile broadband prices

Why did you stop at 2Gb? Going a little further would have shown the 3Gb Bundle for Idiots, another Vodacom Special where the folly of buying bigger bundles is exposed...
 
Why don't you add Telkom 3G data bundles to the mix ? They actually have faster and better coverage in their reception areas at a slightly better (but still no bargain) price. If you live in the Gauteng area then Telkom 3G is a much better alternative to MTN or VodaCom.

Bought my MTN sim yesterday, going to switch to MTN now because of the OOB and the R50 unlimited story and just because I am PI$$ed of with Vodacom.
 
What the hell are Vodacom Advanced and Vodacom Standard products?? And certainly not all products (vodacom at least) is included on the table... I for instance have a 1Gig Vodacom 3G contract (don't know about Advanced or Standard) and a 2 Gig 3g contract... this article seems like propaganda on behalf of MTN to me... I'm certainly not happy with Vodacom's packages, it's very expensive, but this article is inacurrate and biased... Other aspects like service levels, coverage, etc. also needs to be included, as I for one am an extremely satisfied Vodacom user (satisfied with everything but the price).

Vodacom wins if you control usage and stay in bundle. I'm talking about normal bundles. Broadband advanced is a no go.
MTN wins if you tend to go out of bundle often. Also no need to top up with MTN because out of bundle rate = in bundle rate. Whereas with Vodacom you'll have to buy a whole new bundle for a higher price even if you just want 100mb more.
 
I agree that MTN offers a better product at the moment and from experience offer better service levels as well. Our Vodacom cards have been giving many issues lately and the MTN ones are running very fast without drops or timeouts!
 
This article is not very clear at all, author should look to using graphs and a bit more words to explain what exactly they are comparing.
 
VODACOM is owned by Vodafone, this foreign company bought out the remainder of the shares of Telkom, now all the profits are being siphoned of overseas instead of being spent locally. Vodafone shareholders were allowed to buy a company guaranteed to make a profit, in a country with little competition.

It is a similar situation for ABSA, owned by Barclays, the profits are being sent overseas instead of being spent here.

MTN has been looking for a good deal for its shareholders, trying to sell itself again overseas. Those companies need the profits in dollar terms as well ... and in the countries like the UK, because of the competition they get to offer a lot more bang for out buck. Here they get away lightly.
 
still need something like Vodacom4me for MTN.... where I can check data balance, add more data bundles.
as IT guy with a few data modem users, I can only check and add db to the vodacom guys... for the MTN users, they have to out sim into phone dial 258 listen to "you have X left", let me know... samoesa schlep to add a data bundle without getting the simcard to me to do...

but yeah... vodacom needs to address the out of bundle price!

Even if they do R50 = 150 mb is still good this is putting aside the 24 hours 128kbps cap thing , ok now how much can you get for R 50 with voda ?. i love vodacom but this is not enough honestly .
 
between the 2 providers i think vodacom has more coverage in s.a than mtn. my mtn speeds on hsdpa hav neva gone over 260KB/ps in an 85% signal strength. my voda i get speeds up to 638KB/ps in hsdpa aswell. if only voda has something like mtn's "1 day unlimited" or more data for better prices.
 
I don't think I've seen either speed on VC ...

It's not "1 day unlimited". It's 150mb then throttled to 128kbps. Can only get around 1GB downloading for 24 hours. Still, useful for R50 but not if you need fast internet for more than a few minutes.
