Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Yay or Nay. I'm currently with MWEB, have a 4mb uncapped + line rental = >R449.

Reasons I want to change:
  • Shaped Service
  • soft cap is 110gig (I normally download around 80gigs, but randomly go pass 100gigs)
  • speeds haven't been that great
  • No usenet server anymore.

Thinking of going the route of the 100gig fat pipe + Telkom 4mb line rental(R250) => R414.
I know there's no usenet server, not like I'm losing out.

Yay or nay?

MWEB will need a calendar month notice to cancel, so if you sign up for Vox now, you should get around 50GB for the month and pay around R90, that will also mean when you finally start using your Vox account you should have 150GB, that should give you a nice window to keep being capped.

LOL..... I did see that.... ;)

However, as I have been a client of both within 3 months and I have access to test accounts, then I believe that I have a right to address my concerns on this thread :)

I will be honest and say that there is too much geographical / exchange grey when it comes to ISPs... what might be brilliant for me in Big Bay, is terrible in another suburb in CT... we must just choose and keep what is good for us all...

I suspect the problems were something specific to your particular location/setup. Vox Fatpipe is hands down the best capped product in SA at the moment - it's not even a contest. (and I've tested all of the ISPs)

I'll echo everyone's concern in hoping the influx of new users doesn't degrade the service, though.

Going cancel with Mweb tomorrow and sign up with Vox directly after.

Even thinking of cancelling DSTV and going from a 4mb line to 20mb.

Only reason I'm still with Dstv is the sport. Their coverage is outstanding and I cannot survive without my weekly sports!!

Some questions if I may:
a) How well does this service perform with torrents, netflix and youtube
b) I need a capped product, with 200Gb, if possible I would love to have 1 static IP but that seems to be business package only :(
c) Can they give me a test account to check the performance?

Some questions if I may:
a) How well does this service perform with torrents, netflix and youtube - very well
b) I need a capped product, with 200Gb, if possible I would love to have 1 static IP but that seems to be business package only :( - take 2 of the special 100gb accounts
c) Can they give me a test account to check the performance? - unfortunately not but we've already done the testing on your behalf and the product is sound...

Also tempted , I'm currently with Web Africa 40gb anytime using mostly streaming radio and Hulu, netflix buffers a little to get going.

I'm in the same boat, 20mb VDSL, data with WA also on the 40GB package. It does buffer in the beginning I agree.

I have taken the plunge, cancelled and signed up for the Vox promotion, let's hope it does not come back to bite us in the as s and I hope netflix is just as stable or faster.

Quick question:

If one were to purchase the 100GB fatpipe + R59 uncapped bolt-on, will one have to change the account manually everyday at 6PM?

Bolt on does not work with 100GB fatpipe, they only allow it on the 25GB fatpipe....
And yes, you would have to change it manually but there is a tutorial on youtube to show you how to automate the whole process....
