As much as I'd also like to believe that VW is bringing in the 5 door Up!, I feel that it would saturate their market a bit too much. If they did away with the old hat Vivo then yes I'd say it would be wise to bring it into the country.

The last thing they'd want is for the newcomer to cannibalize sales of their top seller, especially in the rental market

Remember they build the Vivo locally and make a massive profit on it. They milked the mk1 Golf for ages, I can't see them doing away with the Vivo line and I doubt they will re-tool it to make something else. Unless, and this is a long shot, they have plans to build the Up! in SA?!
 
What I gather from that is they will then either build the next model Polo or Golf locally, ditch the Vivo and replace it with the Up! (imported). MQB does not go smaller that the Golf at the moment, smallest car on it will be the Polo.

MQB A0 platform is what the next Polo will be built on. In 2015 VWSA said they will produce two new models in SA, with a possible third, which will be announced this year. If this happens, they can probably offset the costs of importing the Up! against more exports.

especially if as I mentioned its partially due to you slamming it closed...... and hitting something......

Sorry to bring it up again.... :)

But, the C1 / 107 / Aygo have had all glass tailgates for a few years - from my own experience and research in the European forums, it hasn't been an issue at all.
 
I've got one, had it for a few months now. Love it.

Good, although i've noticed a massive difference just from driving style. The car does make suggestions on when it thinks you should change gear although it doesn't always account for hills. Doing purely freeway driving ive managed about 650kms on the 35l tank, whilst town driving got me around 575kms.

I could probably get better figures than that but im an aggressive driver.
 
Glass can be an issue, especially if it needs to be replaced. The thing is, if I had to... or let's say wanted to for arguments sake, own a VW it would be a 3 door Up!

Many SUVs have a half tail gate as well that opens which is glass the other half being bodywork.

It is an old idea, so change your tampon and be quiet.
