Hi Guys,

Ive been looking for a wall socket that has built in USB points for a while now and have been unable to source any. I'm looking for the socket which is actually built into the wall (Wall plate socket).

I have looked everywhere I can think and have asked all the electrical shops around JHB and no one know what I am talking about and if they do they say you are unable to get them in SA.

I was wondering if you guys would be able to assist me in telling me which shop I would be able to find them in, even if its an online shop. I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards
Rob

I've only seen them in kick panels and those projector/usb inputs you find in conference rooms.

USB has limited distance so I cant see it being used as house wiring.

Great, Thanks for your advice guys,

I'm looking for the kind of socket like "HApyM3al" described and quoted with the website link. I have noticed they are really expensive, but just thought that in the kitchen instead of having a usb plug like the apple usb plug charger which is a little bulky, it would be nice to just plug the usb cable into the actual wall socket.

Its a pity that the sites which sell these nice usb sockets are all based over in North America.

Thanks all for the advice, really appreciate it.

Its purely a power outlet in a usb format... not actually used for doing any USB stuff :)

true. remeber that it is as well 2.1A shared across two ports if take two ports. I would rather recommend installed two single ports.

That VETI site I linked is JHB based, but you will pay through your nose for their stuff....

Bring on the Type N wall sockets. I have a multitude of chargers that will happily fill that form factor.

That VETI site is unbelievably expensive unfortunately. I would use the USB purely for charging devices so no data transfer needed.

Their pricing is pretty much on the money for that type of thing, unless you McGuyver a solution yourself...

I would rather look at a IoT approach and install intelligent charging stations at various points in your house.

if you need Veti stuff, chat to the guys at ElectroZone (http://electrozone.co.za/) based in fordsburg, they need to order on request but i found their pricing at least 20 to 30% cheaper then builders warehouse!

Called TNW data = http://www.tnwdata.co.za/

hear if they have USB Le Grand inserts.

I have actually also looked for them and I know hotels are installing them. thats where ive tested it and used and loved the idea.

or ask whom might be able to assist.

Sounds great, will check all these places out and give them a call, great to know that there are places, although a little expensive where one can source these sort of products.

With all these devices, it just makes sense to install these kinds of sockets and save on space, it would also look a lot better I reckon.

depends on your needs.

I have two phones. one work and one personal. two iPhone chargers underneath desk and one at the bed and got two in my work bad. got extra lighting cable at office and one at home and micro USB. to me this is easier as i dont have flush mount wall plates.

sounds like bit crazy but my stuff is all neat under my desk haha...

if had a choice id put these in at my desk and bed. but PSU works fine for me for now.

We have a local hardware shop that stocks them in JBay, you basically build up your own plug based on what components you want in there. We have one in the house that has a light switch as well as two 2-pin plugs. There were all sorts of plugins on the shelf and there was even a module that allowed for up to six USB ports.

Didn't cost the earth either. I'll try find out the name/brand tomorrow.

yes like Le Grand and clipsel etc etc.

all of these mainly work with modules: network/ power 3pin, 2 pin, usb, hdmi, vga, EU module, US module, UPS power module.
