No, you only said the rolling windows are being looked into. You never said why abuse emails are being sent out when there are security measures put in place to prevent the network from being abused.

Thought you guys might be interested to know, we've recently upgraded our network by roughly 8% :D
More upgrades to come too!
 
I've been fairly happy with WA's uncapped service because usually when all my mates are complaining about Mweb giving them **** I'll be sitting there smiling because I am unaffected. Latency in games has been amazing but that said I have been experiencing a rather strange but very inconvenient problem and I was wondering if it's been happening to anyone else?

Basically if someone in my house, for reference sake we'll call this person my sister, downloads something using Bittorrent even if only at a few kilobits per second it completely kills my connection! I can not browse the internet, I can not do anything except maybe run a ping from the command line. In some cases it is so bad that the network icon in the Windows system tray shows a yellow exclamation mark indicating there is no internet connectivity! I have a 4Mbit line yet downloading something at an average of 10Kbps completely maxes it out to the point where no one else can use it! :rolleyes:

This isn't isolated to someone else downloading and me trying to browse, even if I just open a bittorent application the throttling or shaping or whatever the hell it is starts. I mean nothing can be downloading but by mere virtue of the application starting to communicate with DHT / bittorent servers I lose the ability to browse the net. This happens irrespective of my usage limit, which I don't even think I've ever hit, as it is almost the end of the month and this is what my usage generally looks like...

Can't speak to the throttling that is happening but I changed my habits and usage from downloading what I want when I want (for big downloads that is) to downloading them during Download+ hours.

Staying in the green is your friend which is somewhere around 10GB - queuing your downloads to happen during Download+ hours is your even better friend.
 
Less active connections per torrent? If it is set to have 1000+ open connections...

That's what I thought could be the problem but which didn't explain why I had issues when the app was running but the torrents were completely stopped. Though you did give me an idea and that was to disable DHT which seems to be helping as I was able to post this while I had a torrent app open. Hmmm...

That is actually what I try to do since I primarily use my line for gaming (with the odd Steam / Origin update thrown in every now and again) and the best latency to be had is when you are not throttled. Unfortunately I have a sister who is a download freak but at the very least I should be able to browse the net while she is downloading something especially if she uses download limits.
 
I thought gaming received priority on the WA network and latencies was never subject to throttling? Unless I read wrong or misunderstood?
 
Ah, well that's pretty balls. You'd expect gaming to be a top priority. I also just noticed this.

"Medium" is the same as "Best Effort" unless there is high congestion on the network, then "Medium" traffic will be prioritised over "Best Effort".

So gaming is actually a best effort service. Nice. The more I read the less feasible a WA account sounds to me.

We've been over this in the end wa themselves said something like "....uncapped isn't for gaming". Just search it... it is here somewhere. Also, WAU is probably best if you are still in your mom's basement without kids and or wife.

Yeah that's what they told me. Well their support, that is. WAJeff said something different.
 
Yeah, I found the thread where the person said WA Uncapped is not recommended for gaming.

Also found numerous threads where Jeff said gaming gets high priority, and then links to an article that clearly indicates it gets medium.

I dunno, I can still understand things like p2p getting low priority, but gaming should not be a best-effort thing. Especially not if just about all your competitors prioritize gaming, and especially not if the ISP in question hosts numerous game servers.

Gaming wise, we are looking at something to specifically surround gaming as a protocol.

Fair enough. I just couldn't wrap my head around why one of the ISPs that is also one of the biggest GSPs in the country doesn't have their gaming protocol on at least a high priority.
 
I'm wondering why MWEB can give high priority to gaming on their uncapped products but WA can't? I thought they had this awesome custom-built prioritization software
