Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Where is the rolling window information for 10mbs uncapped ?

We no longer use rolling windows on our Uncapped accounts so there is no information available.

Is there anything I can assist with perhaps?

My only other question is
How fast can my line be with WA?

Interested in line management and see you guys include reset, recreate and syncing (line speeds)

There has been a issue with IS this morning. This is the reply I got to my ticket from WA.

Hi,

Please be advised that there was a problem earlier on the IS backbone.
The issue has however since been resolved. Kindly reboot your router and re-test your connection.

I have just spoken to our Engineers who advised there was a issue experienced this morning in Cape Town area which lasted a few minutes. Apologies for the issue and inconvenience caused.

Well it can be as fast as your line allows. What are your currently maxing out on now?

If you PM me your details I can arrange that someone gives you a call to explain things and check your speed in your area.

Ugh that was fail. Lol. I meant... How long before I have my line transferred from telkom to WA and can I just have my line with you guys ? :o

No problems :) PM your customer code & I will have a look at the line transfer progress. You can definitely only have you line with us.

Is WebAfrica trying to obfuscate usage readings by adding off peak data to the usage history graph?? (It was not like this in the past)

Why such claims of conspiracies? Well lucky I monitor my own traffic. Although over the last 10 day rolling window I used +-64gig, only 28gig of that data occurred in "peak time". Currently I have been branded with one star on my usage reading, this is the worst possible shaping that webafrica can apply to me :(

Now my question is that can it be called justified if I get the worst shaping possible after using only 28gig over a 10 day period on a 4mb uncapped line?? I don't think it is, and it seems far worse than the open policies of the past which didn't try and hide these facts by not separation the reading on the usage page.

I have PM'd WAJustinW....please investigate why I am being shaped so heavily with so little data usage. Is this what I can expect from webafrica from now on??

I have given up in attempting to understand the vagaries of the WA/IS stars system.

My experience thus far is simple:
  • Confine any downloading to off-peak (midnight to 6am, seven days a week) and the needle will stick at five stars;
  • Any P2P/NNTP downloading during peak hours rapidly results in diminished stars i.e. the skies go dark :)
As far as I am concerned:
  • The story with regard to stars & dynamic algorithms is BS: if it is programmed it can be explained;
  • Prior to the change to IS WA didn't shape during the week-ends, so the client has definitely lost - significantly.

If I remember correctly the old system gave 4mb uncapped users 70gig of peak time bandwidth usage in a 7 day rolling window....now I use 30gig over a 10 day window and get the worst shaping possible!!

I think its a laugh when webafrica claim with the release of this new system that it will allow users to use even more bandwidth.

Personally my usage has almost halved.

Ja this is getting beyond a joke. I assume a home uncapped account would allow significant usage in the after hours periods before being throttled/shaped/hampered/destarred or whatever you want to call it.

Ive worked out my usage from the figures given by webafrica.

In the past 10 days I have used:
9.6GB during the "free" time (00h00-06h00)
36.6GB during "after hours" (17h00 - 24h00 and weekends excl free )
12.9GB during "business hours"

Currently I am on one star. I really battle to see how the above usage equates to abuse such that i am degraded most on their network.

Under the "old regime" my stats were similar to yours, i.e. most - if not all - of my downloading took place during the period that you refer to as "after hours".

Under the "new regime" you will - as you have already discovered - end up with a one star rating.

Your only solution is to do all downloading between midnight and 6am.

And though I will be told otherwise, my feeling is that - even with a five star rating - my conventional HTTP traffic response times are now slower than they were under the "old regime".

The last is particularly noticeable when one has small program updates i.e. less than (say) 10MB. I have a 10MB line, so small updates were pretty much instant. Now I have time to grind the beans and make my coffee.

Yeah I rate if you see the real world effect, the star system could actually just be replaced with a 30gig count down i.e. 1 star = 6gig , 2 stars = 12gig, 3 stars = 18gig, 4 stars = 24gig and 5 stars = 30gig

But anyway you put it, its pathetic

Ya I've never had a problem Web Africa and even posted good reviews in the past and my account seems fine at the moment but 2 stars for 13gb over 5 days... Haha watch yourself WA

Morning Valhallan,

I have received your PM and requested that our Network team investigate. I will provide feedback soon.

Hi Justin.
Considering my usage above, is it correct that I am now on 1 star?
Assuming that it is correct, can you advise what webafrica package you would suggest would allow the above usage on a 4 meg line?
