Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Are these threshold values available somewhere? When deciding to spend double the money I would like to be able to understand how much more I can download for the cost?

It's not double. Only R100 more.

Why you compplaining anyway? You used to be on Axxess business.

If you're going to do a lot of streaming like Chevron, then go business.

I would rather increase linespeed and make use of overnight window than go business.

Unfortunately 2Mb is the max I can get out of my line. I've previously tested 4Mb (max for my area) and it was terrible. I honestly would up the line speed if I could.

Home Uncapped:
2Mbps
R199pm
Business Uncapped:
2mbit
R399pm

I'm not complaining, merely asking a sensible question when it comes to spending my money.
It is the same question I asked when I went with Axxess Business Uncapped. The motivation there was that I was told the Business Uncapped does not shape P2P traffic at all, and it was indeed the case until they recently changed their ToS.
I just want to properly evaluate the options before making my decision.

Bummer :( You must be miles away from the exchange then, or a very noisy line?

On a lighter note (for me ;)), I've also been limited to 4mb (exchange), but Telkom have installed fiber in my neighourhood, just waiting for the call, going to start off with the 20mb option :D

Maybe AH business is the better option for you then? They don't cut you off after a certain mysterious point.

I'm not sure how far I am from the exchange. The stats when running at 2Mb isn't terrible:
Line Status
Your Download Quality
Current Speed: 2048 kbps
Signal Interference: 28 dB
Signal to Noise Ratio: 14 dB
Your Upload Quality
Current Speed: 512 kbps
Signal Interference: 50.5 dB
Signal to Noise Ratio: 26 dB
but when I move up to 4Mb the service is worse than at 2Mb. I'm hoping once 10Mb is introduced here that I can finally use 4Mb :P

20Mb fiber would be wonderful! Hope it comes around soon for you :)

Personally I found 20Mb to be a very reasonable speed. That is what I started with at my previous ISP (in Belgium). They gradually bumped up my line speeds from 20Mb->30Mb->50Mb->70Mb but my quality of browsing and gaming pretty much stayed the same. Obviously my downloading capacity grew but that mostly meant that my server idle time went up :P

Here my stats for what they worth, my exchange (mini-dslam) is about 200m away.

I'll send them a mail and see what they say about their service. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Where can I find more information regarding the "stars" on the WA accounts?

What you want to know?

It's just the system they use to shape you based on how much you download during the day. If you download after midnight you will never get shaped.

Would be better if you told us the line speed you're looking at and how much you download in a month and how much of that you can schedule for midnight.

Thanks for the reply! My account is currently sitting on 2 stars but I don't know what I can get out of that information itself. I'm on 4mb ADSL and my line is with them too. Perhaps there may be an article where WA explains how to help you back up to green or as such?

Just stop downloading during the day for a couple days. The system uses the average of your usage over the last 10 days. So if you really nailed, will take a couple days to sort itself out.

Remember that it's only downloads after midnight that don't count.
