Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

So basically you are paying full price a month for an account that works 6 hours a day.
Been looking at different options for an ISP and WA doesn't seem to be an option. They punish you if you dare to download anything during 75% of the day.

Oooooooooooooook well that was fun. Can someone PLEASE recommend an ISP that doesn't throttle the life out of your line??

Telkom Uncapped. Just read up on the limits before they start to shape you, but it's quite reasonable (350Gb for a 4Mb)

Hi Guys,

At the moment our Product and Management team are investigating the issues on the Uncapped accounts. I will post back as soon as I feedback from them.

Hi Justin -

If the investigation includes the terms and conditions - this could be good news ...

Hi Guys,

Our Network team have made further changes to the uncapped profiles last night so things should have improved. I can confirm that download plus is working and not being calculated to your usage that affects your star rating.

Bye WA

The 'network team' must be fired. All the changes they made screwed-up the good+manageable 72Gb/7 Day rolling window system. They keep making changes, but nothing good happens....Get out of bed with IS (the Devil) or you WILL lose alot of good paying customers.

I have done quite some research the last couple of days (on a guest account) My WA 'supposedly uncapped 4Mbps' account was throttled to the point of capped - their own site could not even load on it!! The best ISP option for me seem to be OpenWeb - the Gold account (platinum too expensive) No throtteling

Yeah things seem to be better now...I'm back to a reasonable 4 stars :)
Getting full speed

Open web gold is throttled/shaped to half line speed during business hours.

Hi Demo,

I find it strange that the changes to our Uncapped profiles have made your connection worse when most of the feedback we received after the changes were that things have improved.

I would like to take a look into your account and see if I can pick up anything. Can you please PM me your customer code so I can take this further.

Lol. If they cannot explain how their star rating and throttling process works, it's clear that they have no clue what they are doing. So yes, it's not strange that tinkering with anything could make it workse.

Hi guys, new here to mybroadband.
I am a webafrica 10mbps data/line user (on the home uncapped). I had a big query about the new star system, but so far I'm happy that they have answered my queries.

My P2P were crawling  today and I also have a 10mb uncapped account in which i was more than satisfied earlier this year but now the star rating system seems to affect my downloads alot (I only have a 6mb sync speed) I've downloaded so far just over 200GB this whole month (13 days)which is well below what the 225GB 7 day rolling limit set before the change. But standard downloading from MS and related (680KB/s Average:D) and gaming are pretty awesome still. So I dont know if Im downloading at the "wrong" times but its still not a bad package.

I will send PM.
It is not that the account is always so slow, only when i dare download more than whatever the 'network team' decided as their 'limit' And it is this limit that we the users would also like to know. The problem is not on my ADSL line, checked this with three different log-in accounts... it is in the contention ratio settings specific to WA.

Get some new feedback from customers starting from this month.... i guarantee you will get a totally different negative feedback answer, i never had a problem with WA (7 years) why now all of a sudden? And i am not the only one as can clearly be seen from this and the WA forum. I have never experienced a throttle of this magnitude!

Hi jarrydred,

Any P2P downloads are limited during the day on all Home Uncapped accounts so that will never run at full line speed but should go back to normal after approx. 6pm.

Hi Demo,

I have checked your account and you are on a 4 star so you should not be throttled at all. We had a profile mis-match on our 4mbs Uncapped Home accounts last week which we fixed on Thursday and most of the feedback from the customers who posted here and on our forums was that things have improved.

Are you still experiencing slow speeds after Thursday's change?

Wa
How does the star system work, is it purely based on your ratio of day / night usage ? Or can you give us an idea of what the limit is ?
Ie. how much is it reasonable to download during the day, over a month, on a 4mb uncapped line.

I'm experiencing heavy throttling during the day with 4 stars on p2p and netflix , but it seems to improve around 10pm.

Now it's impossible to find where the fault is, could be network issue, the exchange, throttling. And by the time wa support reply, the issue is usually cleared up. Rant
