Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

Ok so locations not the issues

WAJeff, exact same problem for Lycanthrope, BossertGF and myself, SURELY something can be figured out if you have our details ?

So it is safe to say, for now at least, that if you're happy with your uncapped from another ISP you rather shouldn't move over to WebAfrica's home uncapped?

Graal, holding off and keeping an eye on how things go would be wise.

If your current ISP has the world's worst billing system and control panel, I'd say switch over :)

Look, it's by no means a BAD product. As I said, I'll be sticking by it for a while yet. The biggest test will be seeing if there are any improvements after the 15th. Browsing is flawless (after the HTTPS crisis) and it's nowhere NEAR as bad as IS' normal uncapped products. It performs better for me than MWEB ever did but it's not as good as the IS network was (for me) on OpenWeb Gold.

Where with IS, I knew that at 17:00 everything would start flying again and downloading at 300kB/s+, with WA it's more... random. The times when it's "great" are sporadic and not always when I need it to be (so it goes to waste). But when I do, that greatness is nowhere to be found.

I'm sure if you want to download the internet it'd be a great product that would give you decent speeds but if you really just want the equivalent of "ordinary" capped usage but with the knowledge that you won't be capped? Yeah, not so much. At least not for me.

WA are a Cape Town-based ISP so I'm guessing folk in the greater Cape Town area have it made? I'm not sure. But for me it's just been pretty disappointing and not worth the R599. Bearing in mind I gave up my OpenWeb Gold special I was on (R539pm) for a slightly pricier product :p So yes, there's disappointment.

That sounds like the best idea. The thing that worries me is that a lot of Uncapped products start out good, and degrades as time goes by and more people join. The fact that WA's product started out so rocky worries me.

Yes, but the account I've currently got has been nearly flawless for nigh on three and a half months now. It's a bit pricier than WA's offering, coming in at R258 a month, which is why WA peaked my interest. Unless WA can give me the same service or better, I'd rather continue paying the higher rate than sitting with a product that only works when it feels like it. :p

Lycan if you are talking 1080p then even I have to wait for it to buffer a bit.

720p is still ok.

I am on a product from WA on the same priority's. I could only stream 360p comfortably on a 10mb line.

I phoned tech support and was assured this was never going to change due to the priorty the account is set to, since it shares the same priority as the uncapped account I am unsurprised you are having issues.

So with this account do not expect great streaming. You should also see poorer speeds during business hours.

I have stuck with the account for the following reasons : Great price, awesome gaming and great speeds.

In November (before the majority of uncapped subscribers came on board) I could stream perfectly on both a capped and uncapped account. Now I can't stream on either account.

Guys lets just wait for the 15th. Hopefully most of the problems will be sorted out by the upgrade.

WA and Jeff have acknowledged the problem due to over subscription. So if the problems are not resolved after the 15th, then we can complain and moan (myself included :p).

MyBB full of complainers. I dont think the problem on WA end. I have had great service from day one and I'm above the threshold. I am a heavy user. I have had great service from day one.

I think that people having problems should mention their locations and I think you'll find that many are in the urban residential areas in like Sandton or something. Catch a wake up...It not your ISP fault if the local backbone/last mile is congested.

How can most people get good speeds even after threshold and you guys say you got crappy speeds. ZYou unhappy go back to your previous ****ty ISP so that the rest of us can enjoy WA. . This tread should be closed and problems handled through the WA ticket system. People want to download the entire internets in HD and not get slowed down....really? surprise, surprise...what you expect....

You want true uncapped than get a business account ffs. You get what you pay for. You want to download Internets in HD like me and still have good gaming experience add a second capped 1 gig month to month unshaped account for R20 (any ISP).

People like you make me fear for the fate of humanity. There's nothing wrong with complaining about sub-par service, even when the issue supposedly isn't on the ISP's side. In this case, it sounds as if the issue is actually on the ISP's side.

Also, you might not want to mention your usage stats next time. It's arseholes like you that bring down the network for everyone else. The fact that you're over the threshold and still find the service fine is highly suspect of how WA handles throttling.

With the capacity upgrades on the 15th, we're expecting the performance to be as it was on the first week of launch, which was awesome :D

Well if all is good for you, then of course we will all stop complaining. It is great that someone has come and told us that we must all be wrong, because if it is good for you, then the rest of us must be wrong (and I include the ISP concerned who has admitted that things are not as they should be).

Very strange that you are above threshold and going full steam, when others have not reached threshold and are having speed issues - oh wait it is local backbone issues not WA. :( My apologies

Also why whould any other ISP account work flawlessy if it was our local backbone that was conjested, I highly doubt that our backbones in Knysna can be conjested as any other Uncapped account from mweb to telkom is working much better then this at the moment.

The issue here is as Webafrica has stated they have run out of international Capacity. so lets hope by the 15th that this issue has been resolved as I agree when these packages launched I had none of these issues that im experiencing now.

Thats a bit off topic. My usage is my usage. Im not saying I'm not throttled. I'm saying that the service level is exceptionally better than the alternatives given my usage pattern on my uncapped account. I use what i pay for. One day in the future I'll be using business uncapped and I will than probable download all my movvies in HD (Which is what many users in the developed countries) Note I also have a capped 1 gig WA account for gaming and I switch to it.

I'm just saying that users spend more time ranting etc with out realizing how the network runs. I think someone should plot peoples locations to see who is having network issues. All I'm saying is that I am in a relatively rural area and have not had an issue. My friend who is in Eastern cape and relatively rural area also has no issues.

Also Your ISP is responsible for your internet service but that stops at the local loop if you pay another company (re: telkom) for the local loop.

Lastly: be part of the solution not the problem. I think that this tread is being abused. Most problems should be handled through the companies channels (and webafrica have a really good ticket system and I have used it many times) and only if that fails come to the community. Many people just rock up here and try to defame the company.

So... Old Republic early access began today (MMORPG).

I finally see what others meant with the latency spikes. I get latency spikes every so often, the highest of which has been 4,000ms.

WTF, WebAfrica?

If this thread was being abused by people posting complaints here, the ISP representatives wouldn't use it as a public area to engage with their customers.

Of course we're not trying to "defame" WA... That's exactly what we don't want, we're being critical about the service we're receiving but that's not because we're anti-WA or anything like that - we're giving feedback, to the community and to WA. Presumably it's helpful to both parties.
