Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

i did 540gig last month, did not get any email last month, when i got the email was at 280gb for the month, i did download during they day at almost full speed for 3 days, so i did abuse it in my eyes , so I will not download during the day again :)

Basically pushed the account because my 1tb with the content of last month broke , so basically lost everything that i did download.

Well I did 180GB so far... I just think I will stick with R418 for the IS uncapped and do my 200-300Gb of downloads a month with no emails from my ISP complaining...

It's not about the legitimacy of it, but the fact that torrents, news servers are generally left to run 24/7 and suck bandwidth up like there's no tomorrow.

In an ideal world I'd agree with you completely but unfortunately those services impact everyone else's quality, throttled or not.

Would be a nice state to know how much traffic does the news server suck vs normal and steam...

Hi guys,

For those that received emails, the subject header was incorrect from our end. Was supposed to be more along the lines of a heads up, definitely not a cancellation.

Hi

Please note that you have exceeded your 7 day rolling window usage for account: account@wadsl and may experience slower speeds as a result of this.

We recommend that you reduce your usage as specified in our Home Uncapped Q&A to restore your speeds.

If this is not possible, we recommend you upgrade to one of our Business Uncapped services immediately.

Don’t forget you can monitor all usage through your DSL Console

Please note that continued or excessive abuse of our service may result in service termination, in terms of our Home Uncapped Acceptable Usage Policy

Please call us on 086 000 9500 or email us on [email protected] if you have any queries.

Thanking you in advance,

Web Africa
I thought uncapped was uncapped... i.e. download as much as you like but live with being throttled...

" we would never cut of a user " I think I remember something in that regards from WA. So this is the response to their lack of backbone, which was apparently fixed, but now they realized they are still under proving ?

Eish. seems mweb still far from perfect, but better then this depending on how you apply it.

So lets have numbers. When is excessive excessive according to webafrica ?

:edit
Web Africa may undertake the following action(s) against excessive usage:
Adjusting the throughput of the aforementioned service if the account exceeds the 6 hour or 7 day limits.
Limiting or preventing service through specific Protocols and/or Ports if the account exceeds the 6 hour or 7 day limits.
Termination of the service due to continuous excessive usage.
Any attempt to bypass Shaping Policies may result in termination of the Uncapped ADSL account.

Week ? 2 days ?

If termination for "excessive use" is on the cards, then why bother with 6 hour and 7 day rolling windows. I really had hopes that WA would be able to provide something closer to uncapped than the other uncapped products available. I guess I will stick to my RedAfrica account until such time that someone offers real uncapped at an affordable price without all the fine print.

Sounds much like solmatrix and their uncapped. Guess what, Asasa had them removed their product...

Fair Usage Policy for Uncapped ADSL
Our Xtreme ADSL products provide uncapped data transfer (traffic) on the SAIX backbone. An uncapped account using the SAIX backbone can however not provide totally unlimited data transfer. There is, therefore, no set cap on the amount of data transfer allowed per month, but fair usage is expected.

Our SAIX "uncapped" accounts therefore provide you with the peace of mind that you will not be capped as long as you are fair in your usage of the account.

To cater for the fact that different people have different data usage requirements we have created "Lite" and "Xtra" uncapped packages in addition to our standard uncapped packages.

The Lite packages are ideal for those that have a light data requirement and do not want to have to pay as much as for a standard uncapped account.

The Xtra packages are ideal for those that have a heavier than usual data requirement but still want the peace of mind of an uncapped account.

We expect all our SAIX "uncapped" ADSL users to be responsible in their usage and how it affects other "uncapped" users. As every GB of data traffic on the SAIX backbone has an associated cost we allocate a pool of data traffic to be shared by all "uncapped" users. This enables us to keep the price as low as possible. If you are not fair in your traffic usage this will have a negative impact on the data traffic available to all other users.

If, based on your chosen package, your usage in a particular month becomes excessive to the point that it will impact negatively on other users, we reserve the right to ask you to reduce the amount of data you are downloading to a minimum until the beginning of the next month.

If you still need to continue with heavy downloading for the rest of the month you are welcome to purchase extra GB's of data for the purpose, or you could upgrade your package to one which is better suited to your usage requirements.

Only if you ignore our reasonable request to drastically reduce your usage do we reserve the right to disable your account for the remainder of the month.

Should you continuously ignore our reasonable requests to be fair in your usage of your SAIX uncapped account we reserve the right to ask you to find an alternative broadband provider.

Wow now that is blatantly spitting in the face of uncapped. How did they manage to have "buy some more" and uncapped in the same product offering. Good thing they were forced to remove it. However, I would not quite compare WA with that, at least not yet. I am still rooting for WA to make it gel :)

I don't generally think it's a good sign to be met with deafening silence. Is there an official response coming in regards to what WA think is excessive as well as a proper explanation on your current rounds of warnings ?

Just some feedback. Since the initial problems have been ironed out I can say this is rock solid. I have had no problems what so ever doing 60-90gigs a month. The speeds are always fast and its so nice not having to switch between accounts as they get capped.

We can't be sure at this stage. However because our Uncapped offering is still fairly new we may consider including FreeZone again.

I hope that it does get re-included at some stage.

Playing around on that trial account you gave me and I've got 500MB of freezone data accumulated in two days, which would hurt the rolling windows assuming one uses data during the day for browsing or something, ie Youtube.

Yeah. I remember the article. From what I understand is that adding the IP-exclude factor into the accounting system proved to be problematic and difficult to implement properly. Well I'm sure WA will manage to get it sorted in due time :)

Nah, was more, "It's uncapped so it shouldn't matter anyway" but "Oh wait, you have been throttled, keep doing this and we'll terminate your service" that I found ironic.

Buy four games on Steam that are 10GB each (not at all uncommon) and download them. There go forty gigs in a heartbeat (4Mbps 7-day window).

That's exactly my problem. Even if they just bring back their gaming servers as unmonitored. Some games, taking Minecraft as an example, can run (on render distance=max) 100-150MB/hour, which would quickly screw people over with the 1.58GB that they have during the 6am-midnight windows.
