Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Hi all,

We understand the need for pricing decreases, and if you take a look at our DSL complete offerings, you will actually see that they are the most competitive in the market currently.
Many posts above expected us to meet R40 at least, this we have done.

Here is a look at our per gb rates across all plans excluding standard line cost pricing:

Plan 1:R17 per gb
Plan 2: R32 per gb
Plan 3: R39 per gb
Plan 4: R31 per gb
Plan 5: R32 per gb
Plan 6: R37 per gb

Many other providers do not offer a line and data option, we offer the convenience of a single account as well as highly competitive pricing on our DSL complete.

This is only only phase 1 of 2, operationally we could not get everything done at a single time without the risk of errors occurring.
We plan to innovate and increase value as soon as possible, July.

How dare you insult this community Kyron. You know better .If you say these are the prices then we at MYBB challenge you to allow us to buy for R17 per GB.

You gotta be kidding???? I use shaped 1GB prepaid...cos I really dont use much bandwidth at home. So it was R70, now R69???? Hello....anyone home...a one rand saving...well done...I mean seriously...thank you for considering the little guys like me. I am over the moon and jumping around with glee I am. Wow...I need to make a list. What do I spend my saved R1 on....choices, choices. I feel so overwhelmed I really cant decide what to spend it on? 3 chappies...hmm...maybe if I shop around ...I can get 4 chappies!! OMG...that would be awesome!

I have been waiting for months for reductions etc, and WA support kept saying please wait....we are restructuring things. So this is what I had to wait months for?????? A frickin R1 saving????!!!!! Im moving to someone else....Im tired of this kark. You have lost a client...worst of all you guys are gonna take a serious knock on word of mouth referrals. Boo to you!

Exactly! I sent them an e-mail months back. They asked me to hang on and I did. I cancelled my Webafrica account with effect from 28 Feb this morning!

Oyy...seems like I was not the only one giving them the benefit of the doubt. Eish...WA...you guys need to do something DRASTIC! There are a lot of upset people...

Do you think we're all morons?
Charging anything more than R50 per gig these days is just totally unreasonable

@ dd1313, these are the in-bundle rates. Out of bundle will be charged at a different rate much like any company would do.

If you use all of the services offered by WA then this might be good.

- If you play games on their network and use their Steam server then this is quite OK.
- However if you are a massive down-loader of torrents and HD Video then this is a rather weak offering.

Compared to Afrihost this is really lacking appeal.

They might have more up their sleeves and derived from the special they gave MyBroadband users. They might be testing something new for future reductions.

Only time will tell. Currently in the 400 m race they are looking way behind but those bends can be deceiving :) Longterm planning might be in their favor :)

So yes those are probably the cheapest One Price ADSL prices but that isn't what people are looking for at all, and with all the survey's and forum discussions you would think you guys would understand.

People are looking for the cheapest prices out there and don't care too much for convienence - you should've seen that from the success of Afrihost. They don't offer line rental but they just have pure cheap accounts. Too many people are locked into contracts to even both about your Complete DSL packages they want Prepaid and normal Data plans for cheap.

Oh and about the whole wait till June thing..... Come on you already pulled a fast one on the people waiting for February. Fool me once... But hey I can just use another ISP until you do drop your prices, and well everyone else will do that as well.

To be fair, their ADSL 4Meg 3GB complete account is competitive. On the rest, my guess is that they are not using SEACOM and have instead decided to go for the fail over route of SAT3 and SAFE. Afrihost and the other guys offering the good deals are using an IS hybrid option of SEACOM and SAT3. If SEACOM goes down, these other options will be badly effected. I really think that WA should have looked at offering a SEACOM solution. Let the IT savvy people cover for themselves by getting 1GB prepaid SAT3/SAFE accounts.

Anyone wonder why the pricing will drop again in July? When is the next Telkom backed line going into use (EASSy)? I think WA will take the knock a month before this new line to try not to lose too many clients because they will be better able to compete when its up and running.
It's not as if SAT3 has been that reliable of late. When it went down, international was basically dead so the fail-safe was ineffective. If Seacom went down, it's couldn't be much worse.

Most smart people will plan for this on their own. I have an account with a provider on each backbone because of this. I don't trust fail-safe plans implemented on an ISP level in this country, and prefer to take it into my own hands.

I currently have:
5 GB Afrihost as my main account, which gets topped up a R14.50/GB.
1 GB Openweb (IS backup)
30 GB local only Openweb for local downloads
1GB WA non-expiring prepaid (rarely used, but only in the event that the other two fail)

So yeah the backbone isn't an issue for me, I want lower prices.

And then once you have our ADSL line we're tied to WA and their wonderful prices. No thanks. I'll stick with a line from Telkom and Afrihost bandwidth. More flexible, cheaper, easier to jump ship when something better comes along. Your DSL complete packages might appeal to the average user who doesn't have any inclination to shop around for the best deal constantly, so good luck with that.

I guess the bottom line is WA is aiming for MWeb's market - the clueless and lazy. It's a pity, but whatever, there are plenty of other providers. I'm not too sure why there's so much anger here. If you don't like the prices, don't use their services.

Lots of angry people, I like... Riot outside WA HQ anyone? :p *rabble rabble rabble*

Absolute load of rubbish. I was waiting for both hosting and ADSL pricing to be revealed, in the hope that I would be able to take all my accounts to WA.

Haha, what a joke, now they will not get any of my business! Are they for real? As you buy more bandwidth you get less of an increase. Afrihost still beats the crap out of them! I do hope they rethink those pricing strategies..

@ rsd, whether you are with Telkom or Web Africa you will be charged R152 for your adsl line at the moment. Web Africa could be your line provider and your data could be with Afrihost for example.
Nobody is tied into anything, no contracts, transferring a line is only a support ticket away.
