Even better today. Curious if this is the new transit, some supercharging of the TCP accelerator or Octotel finally getting off their butts and slowly fixing their network.

@websquadza Trying out a few international hosting providers and noticed some slow response. Ran a winMTR and noticed some weird packet loss at 3rd and 4th hop. Then tried mybroadband and saw the exact same loss:

Also seen a stark downtick on local speeds in the past couple of days. Can't get above 50MB/s, even on steam :(

There's no packet loss here. It's only packet loss if it shows up on the last hop.

The packet losses here do not carry to the next hops, this just means that these routers (hop 3 and 4) aren't responding to every ICMP request. Think of an MTR as individual ICMP requests to each consecutive hop a packet takes from your PC, and not an actual visualisation of the packet's path. Some devices don't respond to ICMP, some rate limit these requests (like these devices) and some don't. ICMP is CPU intensive, and not part of the routing ASIC, which is why it's treated this way. So this does not indicate packet loss unless the packet loss starts at this hop and carries through to the last hop.

I must admit, whatever issue Octotel didn't have - they certainly fixed in the last maintenance round. Accelerator is also at play (and some other minor changes which will be announced in due course:cool:)

Ooooooh, gotcha. Thanks for the explanation!

Anyone else down on Octotel this morning?
Looks like my line is dead this morning, can’t see the PPPoE peer so something is up. Looks like it dropped about 4:30am.

@websquadza when you’re around, anything you might be able to see?

Octotel, CPT Southern Suburbs.

The support line is just ringing endlessly, so I guess everyone's still asleep.

Thanks, missed this on the feed.

Ah cool good to know it's not me, guess I'll also log a ticket. Had to go work from the office, imagine that :X3:

Seems like the entire Rondebosch Octotel network is affected, the team is following up with Octotel. More updates to follow

Maybe it's time to sign up for that Rain off peak LTE sim for situations like this. Only Octotel could royally screw up pppoe at 4am and not tell anyone about it, and still have it broken almost 5 hours later.

@websquadza I am getting pretty low download speeds internationally compared to some of the other people I see in the thread. Any idea what the issue is?
