I believe upload can account for a lot of traffic nowdays since people have to work from home, so it can easily amount to more upload traffic than download.

I don't necessarily agree that having more upload changes my behaviour - if i'm working from home, I'm going to use x amount of data regardless of how fast it is. Unless Teams uses some sort of algo that uses more bandwidth if its available.

Is this the upgrade I've been reading about?

My router actually ramps up the fans now when I do a speedtest

Thanks @websquadza

Damn, my upload speed never increased. Still at 200.
Upgrades are still going on as far as I know. Try rebooting your ONT once a day to see. We’ve received a few enquiries in the past day and fairly random in terms of area. Vuma did say it would take up to two weeks- and if you remember the start of lockdown- that’s likely.

Vumatel Promo Update: Vuma have confirmed that this double up promo will continue until 31 January 2023! So enjoy the new speeds!

We don’t want to jump the gun on announcements with regards to permanent upgrades or the introduction of the 500/200 until Vumatel confirms these to ISPs.

Afrihost introduced 500/200 on Vuma, so I take it that it has been confirmed.

There's been no announcement from Vumatel in this regard - as you can see, most ISPs haven't made any official announcements yet. We'll wait on official comms from Vumatel. For now, all 200/200 are 500/200 until 31 January 2023 (this extension was only communicated to ISPs on Wednesday morning). We have requested more feedback from our Vuma account manager and will announce updates with regards to the introduction of the 500 package as well as any permanent changes as and when they are confirmed.

Hi. I suddenly don’t have a connection to the internet as of this morning - Riverclub in Johannesburg, overhead. Are there any known issues or should I log a ticket?

Wait, so the 1000/200 is only going up to 1000/250? Doesn’t sound like a big increase. I would have expected 500.

Yeah I’m quite disappointed. I see other ISP’s have been upgraded to 1000/500. I would have expected the same with Websquad.

@websquadza, please advise why you are not offering upload speeds of 500?

We’re offering whatever Vumatel provisions clients on - it looks like they've made an about turn on their comms and are provisioning 1000/500 instead of 1000/250. I agree, 1000/250 is a useless upgrade.. Their own correspondence to all ISPs said 1000/250- which is why we communicated this to our clients. In practice, Vumatel has been upgrading to 1000/500. However, it’s not been officially communicated or confirmed- which means there is a slim chance that this may be accidental and rolled back. However, I strongly doubt this and we expect Vuma to send an update in the next few days confirming that the upgrade is to 1000/500. From our end, we don’t have any queues on 1G lines- which means that the only line shaping is on Vumatel’s end. As you can see in above posts- users are getting 1000/500 once Vumatel completes their upgrades - so I'm sure yours will hit 1000/500 as soon as they are done.

As I’ve said previously regarding your upgrade- Vumatel is still busy with the upgrades and the window is from 13 June to 27 June. So give the ONT a reboot once a day. There's no real updates with regards to upgrade progress. If by the end of next week your speeds are still 1000/200 - please let our support team know so we can escalate.

I think they've rolled it back since I'm down to around ~250 Mbps now, it would be nice to see what my actual line speed is according to Vumatel portal, like they had it in the original portal.

@websquadza having some really weird intermittent international connectivity issues, one second I can browse pages without issue, the next the site is unavailable.

Are there any wider spread issues at the moment that you may be aware of?

Vumatel Areal, Radiokop, Roodepoort.

I was one of those 1000/500 upgrades, it seems to have been rolled back and am at 1000/250.

I'm not a client of yours but I like to play with your looking glass all the time and I have to say your latency to Frankfurt is the best of any ISP I've seen and is only beaten by using ExitLag.
