Have an amusingly ridiculous amount of packet loss trying to game on EU at the moment. Completely and utterly unplayable.

General performance also suffering greatly as evidenced by the speed test, but at least still somewhat usable. Would appreciate an update/resolution.

Morning. Apologies for the late feedback here. One of our upstreams experienced an issue in Cape Town this morning that led to blackholing of traffic for an unknown reason. Unfortunately they didn't drop the BGP session, so this kept their route up. We are awaiting an RFO from the upstream here.

yip its rubbish at the moment...

You didn't happen to get a traceroute? JHB traffic was (mostly)unaffected by the above?

He mentioned additional transit coming online this week, guessing this is it and they're still ironing out some kinks.

Unfortunately not - the wheels move slowly when dealing with upstreams.

And we're back.. but on a different route than normal with horrid latency and packet loss:

No packet loss in this MTR - seems to be something in the EU increasing latency. Will know more once we receive an RFO. However, looks like CoreIX have pulled their LINX advertisements, as enta.net is a CoreIX transit route.

At least, I HOPE this isn't permanent:

Seems to affect routing to CoreIX. Other servers are alright. Our Digital Ocean Server (remember, this is an offnet server on a reputable cloud provider's network) (speedtests.lon.websquad.co.za) is showing usual speed and latency.

Ah, just tested to another London server and getting normal latency/speed. How does one select the Web Squad London server from the speedtest web interface?

When this happened this morning the Apex latency was odd. I usually get 144ms to London and 146ms to Amsterdam, with Frankfurt, Belguim etc. being in the region of 170-200ms. This morning London was normal, Amsterdam was 160+ and Frankfurt came down to 154ms. The packet loss was horrendous but I wouldn't mind the lower latency to the rest of Europe becoming a permanent thing :)

Haven't tested gaming since as I went to do some work instead :)

Unfortunately we don't host this as an Ookla server (Besides the fact that Digital Ocean charges quite a significant amount for the specs required to run Ookla's Speedtest Daemon) - it's a diagnosis tool for our clients more than a public tool. We obviously can't use the AWS and Azure's of this world, as these are peering traffic. We have a few other tools set up on this box for monitoring and diagnosing transit traffic. We have a few other regions set up for the same purposes too.

We're working with our transit provider to see what happened. Things look clear well into London.

An update here - still investigating this morning's blip around 8:30. However, the latter issue was tracked down to an issue on a DECIX port. That port has been taken out of service and things are looking a lot better.

@websquadza - since yesterday's blip, I'm noticing in-game pings in Apex have gone up. Amsterdam has gone from 154ms to 164ms, and Frankfurt from ~180ms to over 200ms. London still seems normal. As a result I'm seeing the high ping warning in game quite a bit more frequently as servers are randomly assigned all over Europe. Are these changes permanent?
