The last six months I have noticed a deterioration in speeds I am getting through WebAfrica. It doesn't matter if it is day or night.

Just ran a test again today and am getting 70ms latency to the nearest server with 2.22Mb/s download speeds on a 4Mb/s line. International is actually faster at 2.50Mb/s. This is about where it tops out presently.

When testing a backup Axxess account, I am getting 29ms latency to the nearest server and 3.3Mb/s download speed, so the weak link in the chain is definitely not the exchange.

Anyone else getting this on a RedAfrica account?

Heya Roadrunner,

Have you notified our DSL guys about this? Could possibly be something relating to your account specifically, I know that there aren't any issues on our network at present.
We also ran some Network Maintenance on the 6th June, which usually covers prioritisation and general network maintenance. Strange that you are still experiencing problems here.

Also, where you on a different package before you moved over to the Red Africa accounts? These only became available in April, so across two accounts - you where experiencing issues or just from when you had your Red Africa account created?

Hi WAJeff,

I have not notified the DSL guys about it, because unless you guys are employing throttling on a per-account basis, there is nothing new they will be able to bring to the table. I have kept tabs on this decrease in speed for a long time to make sure it not is a run-of-the-mill issue which will sort itself out.

I have one of the 30GB accounts from last year's special which has been auto-converted to a RedAfrica one, and really the last time that I got speeds anywhere close to 3Mb/s was during December last year.

This of course points to plain and simple network congestion. Strange thing is when WA was testing their new IPC during 2009 and daring people to download as much as possible to see whether it could withstand the load, I did not once notice any decrease in speed.

hey roadrunner, many many WA customers have been complaining about deteriorating product quality and poor service for a while but WA refuses to address these issues properly and instead continues to charge exorbitant prices for services which are becoming more unreliable by the day, its a pity and i suspect the only remedy to your problem will be to find a better isp

I hope this is not true
As i cancelled my MWEB uncapped for the Redafrica special

I have experienced the same thing, although I have only really been using my WA account in the last month. I also have the 30gb mybb special from last year (although not sure that it's been converted to anything).

Yesterday I raised a support ticket. In response the WA tech guys gave me a 'pro' account to test against.

I ran tests against the pro account, an uncapped mweb account and my normal 30gb WA account. The tests made use of wget to retrieve a file via http.

The logs were submitted to WA and the results were that the 'pro' account performed better. More consistent download speeds, utilising my 4mb line better.

The response?

"For traffic not to be shaped i would advise a pro account as our normal account are prioritized"
with this link: http://kb.webafrica.co.za/article/AA-00742/33/Internet-Connectivity/ADSL/Bandwidth-Priority-Profiles.html

The fact is, though, it's still a fantastic price for what I'm getting. So I will stick with it for the time being.

I was looking into switching, but did not want to do it, because I am a longtime customer. Thing is, they have me by the short and curly for now with the RedAfrica special, albeit at slower speeds. :D

Just for interest's sake, the slow speeds I am referring to is related to browsing and http downloads. I very seldom use p2p and know this is given lowest priority.

Hi RoadRunner
Are these results from Speedtest.net?

I too have been having performance issues and was given a pro account to use for a period of time on MyBB special - there was certainly an improvement, but by no means worth paying double. I consider that a rip off to be honest.

My feeling is that WA needs to ensure their basic products give the premium performance that WA claims. (Yes I know that part of my problem is at the exchange and that is out of WA control).

Due to the special I am on I too agree that I am getting it at a great price; in fact I do not think I could do better (I do not need uncapped). I will be a happy camper when the speeds are what they should be

Really bad tonight.

30 GB account aka lowest priority accounts.

What is the performance looking like the morning guys?
I'm seeing fairly mixed feedback from last night to this morning.

Not great results at all here marine :(
Can you drop me a PM with your client code so I can have a look at things from our end please.

Can you just please explain why you ask for the guy's details every time? He either has access through the network or he doesn't? Or, can you guys really tune individual accounts?

Not trying to be sarcastic, really trying to understand the setup. ;)

Aggg I dunno paying for a business account, that slows down during the day. Faster at night no dedicated IP address.

Hmmm think I should move to an after hours uncapped service
