FRIDAY TOPIC: Weekend Weight Gain
I'm pretty sure most can relate to this topic or hear someone talk about gaining up to 5kg over the weekend thinking its all bodyfat. So did you really gain 5kg of bodyfat? The answer is NO. A small percentage is bodyfat depending if you are in deficit or not, but majority will be WATER!

Here's 3 facts that I want you to remember

1. ~0.5kg of fat = 3500cals. So you have to consume 3500cal more than your maintenance to actually gain 0.5kg of fat. If your maintenance is say 2500cals, you need to eat 6000cals in one day to actually gain 0.5kg of bodyfat. Whats the chances of that? Unlikely if you eat sensibly!

2. 1g of glycogen holds 3g of water. Your muscles are made up of ~70% water which is stored from muscle glycogen. Glycogen comes from the carbs you eat. So if you eat more carbs than normal, which you will, your muscles will hold more water giving you the false impression that you've gained fat. Its actually just water weight.

3. Sodium is also a culprit to water retention with about 1g of salt adding almost 1kg of water. It pretty easy to over consume high sodium foods as they're the foods that taste good.

So there you have it, more cals, more carbs, more sodium are the reasons why your weight shot up over the weekend. You probably notice your weight comes back down afterwards as your diet is back to normal. So NO, you didnt just gain and lose 5kg of bodyfat over a few days (lol), you just gained and lost water weight.

Now have a bloody good weekend! :) :) :)

What I have learnt through out all of this is to at least track my weight once a week. To prevent myself from slipping back.

So, how are all of you fatties doing recently?

I managed to shed another 5kg in 2 months! Getting there slowly...

Down to 61kg. But not so much being good about exercise or eating healthy, more by portion control.

Injuries and not enough sleep have taken the joy out of going to gym.

Haven't really been monitoring my diet for a while now. I have been eating far less these days (my appetite has reduced dramatically over the last few weeks). Weighed myself this morning for the first time in 2 months and I have managed to lose just over 5kg.

Thanks man. Cant believe what I weighed to be honest. I never thought I would actually be wearing my high school jeans.

I am now a loose 34 from a 42.

Joined the thread this year never even dreaming I would reach my goal.

Now I can feel that I am in reach of getting a bf of 12-13% and maybe for the first time in my life seeing my own abs.

The only downside is that the cold reallllllllly bites when you have less fat.
