Weight Loss/ Gain thread Dec 2014 - 2015

@jsheed_sa , why worry about looking for ways to stuff in extra calories when you want to lose 7kg?

Maybe for now, eat the diet you pasted above, then see what starts to happen to your weight. In fact, if you want to lose 7kg in 12 weeks you are going to have to lose 583g per week. I say aim to lose more than that at the start, as the weight loss will actually slow down after a few weeks anyways.

If you get to your goal weight ahead of time, then there are plenty of ways to add in calories.

edit: Thor's advice for the extra calories sounds good to me :)

Also agree with this.

Those are calories without taking exercise in to account, e.g. I eat that and I go down to my 72kg after 3 months or so MyFitnessPal tells me.

If I add in exercise it becomes something like this on a rough calculation:

I'm not consuming all the calories they want me to as I'll be less active on break days and I think they're over stated anyhow. I really don'y know how i'm going to put this food away as I can't eat that much now, but I know with exercise the appetite will kick in.

Last year I dropped from 80kg to 74kg in prep for fight night. This year i'm trying to be a bit leaner as I definitely still had some to lose last time round. This time i'm taking it a bit more seriously as i'm going to cut out drinking for 3 months - mainly to assist in the weight loss, but also as a test of willpower to see if I can ;)

Just because its not Tim noakes, I don't like the guy and he's mentality.

That is incredibly stupid, in the context of you dishing out dietary advice to other people.

Making lifestyle choices due to issues of personality is very ignorant. All that should matter is what the current evidence and science suggest.

And there are one or two differences can't recall specifically and quite franky can't care less as they offer no benefit to me and my lifestyle.

Nothing significant.

You couldn't care less, but you are happy to tell people to avoid Noakes because you don't like him for some reason. Yeah.

@jsheed, fair enough. Regarding getting to a fighting weight, I know the norm is to lose weight leading up to a fight, but wouldn't it be better to lose the weight well before the fight so that you become accustomed to your fighting weight? With the loss in weight there is a loss of strength, right? Noob disclaimer; I'm not a fighter :p </off topic>

You seem concerned to lose too much weight too fast?

As currently being discussed in the thread crusade against carbs I made it "scientifically" clear why I do not like Tim jokes.

No need to go into vast detail in this thread too.

Noakes is a Joke end of story, especially in regards to the fighter guy and too me and anyone who takes gym seriously.

I don't need to *make* weight.

It's white collar so you get partnered with a fighter closest to your weight / skill level - so its not that I need to make lightweight or middleweight etc BUT it does help being lighter so you don't need to fight the big boys :P

With white collar not having weight divisions there are vast discrepancies in weight e.g. most guys will be mid to high 80 leaning towards 90kg odd. So I suffer more at 80 as I could end up having to fight someone with close to 10kg or more on me. Being low 70's I'm almost guaranteed to fight the lightest guy there (usually around 70kgs) so its better for me in the long run if that makes sense.

Last time round out of 16 fighters it looked something like this:

3x 70-80kg
10x 80-90kg
2x 90-100kg
1x 100+kg

Re the weight loss well in advance - i'd prefer to spread it out so I don't lose muscle. I know i'll drop at least 5kg, but i'd like to push for more and be leaner than I was last time :P

You anti noakes people do realise he didn't invent Banting Diet right? It's also not the only LCHF diet.

It's not about the diet, I don't think. There's a very strange and irrational dislike for the man (although to be fair, I haven't yet checked out Thor187's scientific rebuttal in the other thread, as of yet).

This!

Banting, atkins all that is fine LCHF has been around for some time.

But mrJokes came and simply slapped his name on it and is now viewed as God.

Remember Mr Jokes was the ambassador for High Carb Diets ey.

He sweared his life by it and did many seminars on professional sport level telling us how good carbs is.

Now he all a sudden vouch fats. He a money hog that's all.

He also irritates the living shiat out of me and we have met kn numerous occasions and did not change my perception.

Day 1 of LCHF and I already miss my carbs and sugar :p

Welcome aboard. Prepare for headaches and Sahara like thirst. Give yourself 7-10 days to fully adapt to the new lifestyle. It really is worth it. I was only hungry at 12pm today and after eating, will easily make it to supper.

Good luck!

Not my first foray into the world of LCHF, just hoping to make it stick this time around.

I too have fallen off the wagon before but after all the additional reading and lectures watched, I have now finally got my head around how bad sugar and refined carbs are for our bodies and I will live my life LCHF all the way.

We have a family holiday week in Cape Town from 1 Feb and my wife keeps trying to persuade me to skip LCHF for the week so we can enjoy Charlie's Bakery and other sweets together but I really am not keen - I am so scared to go off, feel terrible and put the weight back on again. I got rid of all my fat clothes when I lost my weight last year so there is no fallback plan for me to reply on.

Probably best not to tempt fate by indulging for a week, stay strong :p

Sugar and carbs are terribly addictive, well at least for me anyway!

One cheat meal too easily turns into a cheat weekend, week, month, year. Had a bit of an off day on Friday with a mutton bunny and beers, but made sure I stayed the course after that for the weekend.

Still going strong, losing fat and loving LCHF.

Well done - you've been with these threads for ages - have you kept track of progress all the way?

This. All the way this.

I was doing really well last year when I started LCHF, had a cheat day on the friday, Ordered Pizza's, The next morning didn't want the left overs to go to waste, that was the end of my LCHF :(

I mostly track on MFP, but I'm chilled if I skip the tracking. I'm down around 18kgs, quite a few sizes. Would check my weight but the scale battery is dead and I forgot to pick up a new one.

I'm not shooting for drastic weightloss, I know if I stick with it consistently I'll be my ideal weight not too long from now.
