Weight loss

I do eat eggs. I'm thinking of adding fish if I can choke it down :D

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fish is yucky!

Closest thing to meat I can manage is egg milk. Must be flavored so I can't taste the egg.

SO is trying to get me to eat chicken at least but eish it's hard. I look at it and go

you're a vegetarian Shaun?

It actually is a lifestyle change. The 2 fast days create a calorie deficit and it's a sustainable way of losing weight. You then maintain with one day of fasting.

no it's not, the whole concept of calorific deficit is wrong, the human body is a chemical engine, not a heat engine, not all calories are equal, so the calories in vs calories out is not a straightforward equation as it is made out to be where the human body is concerned. As soon as you remove the necessary nutrient components the body requires to function optimally it adapts and all sorts of other chemical responses start to occur

Ja I think Old Meanie should supply us with an eating and exercise plan because he seems to know a lot

like I said in a earlier post it's very difficult to come up with a one size fits all solution, I've learnt a lot over the past 2 years of exploring the science of nutrition, but I still feel it's a hugely under-studied field and there's lots of conflicting information and at times I also feel that I've still only scratched the surface. I'll help out where I can in terms of highlighting bad or pseudo-science, or common myths based on either of those.

but here's some basics based on what I've learnt:

can exercise help with weight loss? - yes, but it's not a major contributor, an average male would have to run for an hour a day for 40 days to burn off about half a kilo of fat, all things being equal.
carbs, in short, are evil - especially highly refined carbs
GI - is not a perfect indicator of anything
stay away from polyunsaturated fats (PUFA's) and look for saturated fats
find what works for you, understand the way your body reacts to carbs, fats, proteins, experiment but do so from a perspective of knowledge, not the latest fad on the newest web site

edit - exercise, can be a lot more beneficial if you go for muscle building activity, more muscle mass will burn off more of your fat stores
