Weight loss

If you really want to drop weight very fast and in a somewhat healthy way - do this:
- No coffee, sugar etc
- Don't go over 30g of carbs per day
- Don't go over 3000kj per day (worked for me when I weighed 98.5kg in May - as of now I am on 78,5kg)
- If you want chocolate, get yourself MaxiLean thermogenic - has about 3g of carbs, tastes nice (but watch KJ)
- I have On Whey Powder for breakfast (Choc Mint - get it from Dischem) with milk (about 5g carbs) - two scoops (=54g protein and 6g carbs) for breakfast
- I initially took some Herbex before my 30 min run (I run 7 days a week - you get used to getting up at 5am)
- During the day I snack (biltong, cheese, chicken)
- Evening I cook it up (chicken breasts from woolies, red meat sometimes fish - some veg and never starch)

Have not had a slice of bread in 3 months. Occassionally have On Whey Powder with bfast cereal (when I feel more run down to push up some carbs). Only drink water, Sprite Zero or Tab.

It is horribly tough, but when you drop from a size 42 (= friggin tent) to a now size 34 and move from a XL to a M in 3 odd months, it's so worth it. I am reading some of those meals you guys eat and am wondering if anyone is able to drop weight or maintain it (but I am honestly jealous reading about wraps, eisbein, Lindt etc).

My understanding of ketosis is the condition where your body is producing ketone bodies for energy.
So on a low carb diet you'll always be in ketosis, but depending on your metabolism you may or may not be excreting them.
So it's important to exercise, to up your metabolism, to trigger your body to produce more ketones for you to pee out :D

You can buy yourself ketosis strips and then check if you are still in ketosis (you will also notice if you are in ketosis if no-one wants to talk to you, as your breath will reek like a pile of poo - sugarfee chewing gum FTW)

Insulin and glucagon secretion is coordinated

Insulin has many actions, the most well-known is stimulation of glucose and amino acid uptake from the blood to various tissues. This is coupled with stimulation of anabolic processes (or synthetic reactions) such as glycogen, protein and lipid synthesis. Glucagon has opposing effects, causing release of glucose from glycogen, release of fatty acids from stored triglycerides and stimulation of gluconeogenesis. The balance between these two hormones holds metabolism "on the line", promoting a stable inner metabolic milieu (or homeostasis).

Consumption of carbohydrates triggers release of insulin from beta cells. Alpha cells become inhibited and cease to secrete glucagon. Taken together, these actions produce a rapid return to fasting blood sugar levels and storage of glucose as glycogen or lipid.

A protein-rich meal leads to release of both insulin and glucagon. The latter stimulates gluconeogenesis and release of the newly formed glucose from the liver to the blood stream. The very moderate rise in insulin associated with the protein meal stimulates uptake of the sugar formed in the liver by muscle and fat tissue.

Hence the unlimited protein issue. However, it does take a lot to cause that to happen.

I have previously pointed out that insulin and glucagon act together to balance metabolism In general we can say that insulin favors anabolic reactions; glucagon, catabolic reactions. Put more simply, insulin favors storing energy and production of proteins while glucagon activates release of stored energy in the form of glucose or fatty acids.

It does not reek like a pile of poo. It smells of acetone (like someone who is a bit drunk). If it reeks like poo, you have a hygeine problem ;)

As for ketosis, I know when I am. I can feel the difference in my energy levels

Although that does explain why D3nz is able to clear a room so fast :D

Don't go over 3000kj per day .

Starvation diet - 750 calories per day.
Convert that to grams for those who hate Kj/Cal

Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories
Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories

83grams of fat
or
187 grams of protein

This is not enough to function on healthily

If you find "dieting" really difficult - something's wrong.
If you have a stinky breath - something's wrong.
If you have anything like constipation et c - something's wrong.
If you think that this song matters - something's wrong.
Ooohhooh
Something's wrong.

Would love to engage more around this, but I'm now out and about, maybe later :)

Less or more energy?

I assume you don't eat any fruit and a very limited amount of vegetables - no butternut, sweet potatoes etc.

Do you eat tomatoes?
