May I ask what the Disease/issue in question is? Sounds like a one track description to my own.

The food looks amazing though.

Thank you. We thought it was cancer of his bowls or stomach but he had a G&C and all results were clear. So many tests and costs later IBS Is the he official diagnosis and he is gluten intolerant and has problems digesting starch and some carbs too. Dietitian also recommended stopping all fruits and veggie skins and seeds as well as gas producing veggies/seeds and nuts cause the gas cause bloating and pain. Broccoli was the first thing she said to get rid off and that is the one thing he refused to budge on. So we have started a food diary and we are working on an elimination diet. I got some sourdough bread today and he tested it for lunch. He still wants burgers in the weekend so we are testing it so that we can see if he reacts to it at all. If not we have a option for a burger which will make him happy. Thanks for the suggestion. We tried Rye and it didn't work.

Thanks for the advice.

That braai looks awesome Randhir. So luss for a lekker braai at the moment.

If his needs are anything like my own then you want to stay from seeds (rye) and such as well.

Popcorn and generally anything with insolvable fibre is a big issue.

Food diary is the best way. And even then I triple test stuff to be absolutely sure.

Milk was the other big one for me.

But remember yoghurt is lactose free and most harder cheeses are so low in the stuff you can get away with it easily.

Ultimately everything in moderation is the key.

I can do one meal of say two bread slices a day. But for more than one meal and I'm buggered.

Broccoli and green beans, zucchini and that kind of thing are out for me but I fortunately never liked them anyway.

It takes time and patience (with pain and suffering) but you get there in the end.

I've done just over a year now with no hospital visits and only a handful of down days.

Bizarrely it's the things that you think are healthy that mess you up.

My entire life every doctor was "more fibre" and it never helped. Only recently did I try the exact opposite and reduce fibre (specifically insoluble fibre) and it changed my life.

Of course I'm on serious medication too which is borderline chemo but diet is ultimately what matters day to day.

Nuts in smooth nut butters are fine. It's the raw nature that scrapes the bowel that is the issue.

Personally I don't find the the skins of fruits make any worthwhile difference to me for the effort required. But every person is different, which is the unfortunate part as it makes it difficult.

I for instant find chillies very helpful for their inflammatory properties. Other people with IBD related issues can't stand them again.

I like your triple test idea. Think I will try that too. Do you have a written food diary or a app? I have downloaded about 10apps now to try and they are all so complicated and ****ty. Just want a basic "today I ate..." Type thing not a carb counting, weight measuring one. He Ioves nuts and Greek yogurt. He has them every morning and can't have a day without them. He finds they make things work better so keeping those. He can't eat even one meal with bread without pain and bloating unfortunately. At the moment he had to have rusks (something heavy but we don't want to do bread) early in the morning with 1 set of pills (steroids) and a normal brekkie later with other and those rusks kill him by night time. But only another 2 days of meds left.

I really appreciate all the advice Sauron glad you have found a way to cope and still enjoy great food. Think I'll be going back to check your food for ideas. Thank you.

I also went through the myriad of Apps and of the lot MyFitnessPal was easiest but as you say it's a calorie counter and therefore overkill.

So I started just using OneNote to track what I ate and more or less what it did to me and at the time also every bit of info about my disease.

End of the day as I got more into it I now just use Google Calendar in reverse, adding stuff after it's happened more to monitor what's evil and what's not and to check when I have something similar again what it does.

But in the beginning you want to track mostly everything and often by hand or a simple note taking app is easiest.

Later you can just monitor specific bad stuff.

I am very lucky that I was already off sugar at the time I was diagnosed with Crohn's and was in the process of less and less milk. Went all gluten and lactose free which is impossible and I would rather Kill myself.

Got on the gluten again in no time and lower lactose products.

The first month it is good to get off all of it as a kind a body reset though. Easier to find trigger foods when your eating almost nothing.

Not sure my recipes will help too much. I only cook on weekends really and that's when I cheat because if I go mandown I don't have work at least.

You didn't hear it from me...but the Devil's Lettuce works wonders on the bad days. :)

My smoker has been sorted out so I made pork chops and sausages.

A friend was over and made us some awesome cocktails. Jalapeno infused tequila margaritas and strawberry infused gin and tonics.

Nice sb. My cooking has fallen a bit by the wayside just lately. It's been pretty hectic. Hope to get back to normal soon
