Signal.

Pretty legit

This , encrypted phone calls now as well since it merged with Red Phone.

I use Hangouts is a messaging app that lets you send and receive messages, photos and more, and even start free video and voice calls – one to one or with a group!

I would do the same if Google supported Windows Phone.

Sadly Skype is the only one true multi-platform client out there...and it's not great.

Nice app, but appart from voice calls, lacks features compared to Telegram. First 1 or 2 calls I made to it to the people I asked to install it for the voice call feature (i deleted whatsapp) was ok, but yesterday the quality was crap....national and to the UK.
Is this on Vodacom network, correct? :)

I saw not so long ago your proudly announcement of coming back to Vodacom from Cell C, so I seriously thought it was Vodacom. ;)

I did ... and network experience with Vodacom was fantastic. I ported to Telkom (more than a year ago so not sure where you think you saw me say this "recently") with the Smart 100 special to save on costs. Telkom is good, but coverage can be patchy etc. I am considering going back to Vodacom once my contract ends.

Then you should consider Cell C. You will be roaming Vodacom. :)

No **** sherlock but he said Whatsapp is slow on his phone so perhaps before forking out cash for a new phone he could try that.

OP did not say anything about WhatsApp being slow, but rather about it being bloated with too many updates.

Oh you mean that app that advertises that its secure, but its not? Cool. As long as you know that HomeBrew Crypto is a bad idea, you're welcome to use it. Just don't make people think its secure, like... at all...

That link means nothing to me and proves nothing to me. /shrug

The last comment is also retarded. From what I understand Telegram told the Iranian government to fck off.

Do you struggle to read or comprehend what you have read? They broke Telegrams "encryption". Which is why nobody who takes crypto seriously does homebrew encryption. Telegram does not use industry vetted techniques and code.

But sure, continue with your blind faith. I just seriously hope you won't be in a situation to have to rely on Telegrams 'encryption', ever.

So why are they not enjoying their spoils?

Yar, this "secure" app does not have closely to the cryptology than its "competition" ...

He was to lazy to read the PDF in the post, clearly... like even a simple scan of the thesis would give some insight...

On topic, try Signal, its rather secure and well created.

ja ja ja ja. /rolls eyes.

Use Secret Chatz then in Telegram.

Besides, I use Signal also ... but for calls. I only have two people on there. Telegram is fine for me.

Using "Secret Chatz" does not help and doesn't mean anything. All it does is provide you with a false sense of security, which is even more dangerous than no security at all.

As I've said, use telegram. Just do not punt/sell it as a secure communication solution, because its very far from it. You can expect similar level of privacy from Telegram than you do from Whatsapp.
