I have a TrendNet 658BRM that's giving me endless issues. I'm using an old trusty Tenda router for the time being while I look around for a suitable replacement router. So without repeating the mistake of the TrendNet again, which N300 routers should I look preferably under R1000? TP-Link, Netgear, Billion or Tenda? I would like to get the Asus DSLN12U B1 but I doubt that's available locally. All advice would be highly appreciated :)

Netgears are also excellent routers, get a free one on contract from the Telkom shop.

Don't buy another Trendnet, no matter how cheap it is.

I have the Asus N12 router and it is great. It has far better range than a Netgear or DLink.

It is available locally: http://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/31026137/Asus+DSL-N12U+Wireless-N300+ADSL+Modem+Router/

I got it the cheapest at these guys but I can't find it on their website any longer:

Edit: Found it http://2k11.co.za/MD-ADSLN12U?search=n12u

Nope, I did get the B1 from them. Maybe contact them.

I'll contact them. Their price on the Asus is cheaper than Esquire.

I always have this mental image:

I'm pretty happy with my TP-Links. Currently got a 8970 and it's a pretty decent piece of kit but I actually prefer the older 8960. Find the range on the 2.4ghz routers better compared to the 2.4-5ghz routers. Also tried connecting an external drive as well as a printer to the usb ports on the 8970 and couldn't get it to work (not that I made much effort) but I was expecting it to be a lot more intuitive.

I was going for the TP-Link but then I bought ASUS DSL 12NU B1 from Esquire for R699 excl. vat.

Thanks for the suggestions and help. Much appreciated :)

The ASUS is a huge upgrade from my not so old TrendNet :D

It is an awesome little machine if you start tinkering with the settings.

I get better speeds than on my old Nergear and the range of the router is great.

Glad to hear that you are happy.

The ones Telkom shops sell dgn2200 are pretty solid & decently priced. You can get cheaper online but if you want a brick/mortar shop then thats the best.

/nvm...see he bought already
