Good day

Which one of the below would you guys recommend?

VOX
Capped 500GB - 100/50Mbps line
500GB of Fat Pipe (Unused data rolls over)
Month-to-month Contract R 849/m

Iconnect
Capped 350GB / 100Mbps line Month-to-month Contract R 859/m

Webafrica
Capped 200GB / 100Mbps line Month-to-month Contract R 749/m

I streaming a lot and game...

budget is about R1k..

I am not sure how the uncapped offerings are but past experince has shown me that you get throttled hard..

I have all the fiberhood options...

Thank you

From past experience, I'd avoid WebAfrica at all costs - obviously, I'd say OpenWeb and a few others but you didn't list them.

Which fibre network are you referring to?

with ADSL this may be the case but with fibre I'm not so sure

from those choices it looks like Openserve.

but the prices tend to disprove that!

Looks to be a GPON network, so either Fibrehoods, Maboneng or Frogfoot or the like.

Cool ideas and VOX has uncapped 100mbps for R1k...leaning towards cool ideas... any feedback regarding their services?

That's an interesting comment, it caused me to Google more about EPON and GPON. Do you know who uses EPON?

I don't think anyone at the moment, might find it's still a bit expensive compared to GPON.

Well I am the CISP rep if you have any questions :).

I can't speak for the others but I would also not recommend WebAfrica for the following reasons:

1. My experience is that their customer service is very bad. You'll be lucky if they respond to your support emails or tickets. So if something goes wrong, you have to phone them, wait for a consultant and make a fuss to get anything done. They really are very laid back with their support.

2. Their capped accounts are shaped. Although there is a complicated prioritisation system on the capped accounts, I wouldn't settle for shaped capped data unless it's super cheap.

For me, its their accounts department that are the devils... I'm going with RSA Web.

Hmm ja thats weird... Usually the uncapped ones are shaped not the capped ones.. but webAfrica doesn't show that (well i couldn't find it) on their website.

HomeConnect and CoolIdeas also seems to be very popular !

Most DSL ISP's don't OPENLY discuss the "shaped"ness of their uncapped accounts.

You need to hunt for that TOC's bud - but you will find it, because if you take them on about it, they point it out to you.

They have a support article on their website which details how specific products are shaped (what they call "traffic prioritisation"):

https://www.webafrica.co.za/knowledge/knowledge-base/bandwidth-priority/

The only product lower on the priority list than Home Capped is Home Uncapped. Doesn't look good to me. I suppose all other ISPs will have a similar system though. In the end it's probably best to try it out first.

Regardless of the performance of their products, their customer service is very bad. Cannot stress that enough.
