Yea I have had a lot of people asking me about wind serpents lately... and to be honest, I tried both of the so called "best" dps pets.
I can elaborate a lot on the windserpents but i dont wanna bore you to death with it

I will just give you the main high lights I like / dislike about serpent pets.
Personally I still find ravagers no1 dps monsters.
Wind serpents I still regard as "gamble" dps pets. Reason behind it is pretty simple. Serpents have the following going for them :
1 - Spell damage... the whole Armour damage mitigation of bosses are irrelevant.
2 - The serpent relies on Crit damage. Once he crits, he crits high.
Now the not so good :
Whats the main stats hunters go for if they want max damage and want to scale the stats over to their pet ? AP... raw AP.
Now... what do serpents require for max damage ? Massive spell power + massive spell crit !
Now thats the one thing we hunters never ever ever focus on our builds. (unless he is a huntard ofc hehe)
Yes its true a part of your AP gets converted over to your pet...
To give you physical breakdown :
Lets take my AP stats... I am on 2405 AP unbuffed. From that stats, if I use a physical dps pet like a ravager, he gets 530 AP scaled over to him.
If I use a serpent, of that 2405 AP a smaller percentage will be converted to spell damage...only 309 damage gets scaled over to him... so now the picture looks a bit different ! What benefits more ? The ravager ! Ravagers just benefits more from the type of stats that hunters stack up on.
The one thing that makes the serpent looks good, is critting... now remember your own crit does NOT scale over to pet. So even if I sit with 50 % crit, it doesn't help my wind serpent much. Your wind serpent still needs special gear drops like eg. the beast tamers shoulders which boosts your pets crit.
On a micro level of squeezing every bit of dps out... I found the ravager to consistently give me more overall dps at the end of a night, rather than a Wind serpent. Look there are times the Wind Serpent out damages the ravager, but thats where the "gamble" factor comes in. I just found the Wind serpent is not consistent in high dps. The ravager still comes out tops in my books
Grey areas I cannot find answers for which bugs me on wind serpents... As we all know, there is a difference between Spell Hit and normal physical Hit rating. Now the talent animal handler states "it boosts your pets Hit rating", it doesnt state that it boosts your pets "Spell Hit rating + Normal physical Hit rating"... and looking @ WWS stats, it looked like my serpent was missing around 20% of his damage output... which is more or less the same as having a ravager with no "animal handler" talents. Look I can be wrong, but as I said, I couldnt find conclusive answers that are 100% certain that "animal handler" benefits spell hit rating as well. Oh well.. thats my finding... its not necessarily right or correct, but its what I found the case to be with Wind serpents
