You guys that import so much Whisky. SARS says:

You are allowed only three transactions (of less than R50 000 each) during any calendar year before you must register as an importer.

Just to confirm. When they say calendar year they mean 1 Jan to 31 Dec and not tax year as in 1 March to end Feb?

I did 5 imports between Feb 2020 and Dec 2020. During 2 of then DHL did not even call me for an ID Number or Importers number.

Normally they ask for either and then I just give them my ID number.

I know of some people who have been whacked by SARS for this after their 3rd import. I also know of people who have imported hundreds of packages from all over and nothing happens to them.

I wouldn't worry about it.

A real coinsurance knows fanta grape is better though.
So this was a mistake. It would be a compliment to call it the most vile tasting, paraffin flavored cough syrup that expired in 2002. Hats off to you, Sir, as you are truly a coinsurance.

What are everyone's favourite whiskey mixers? Mine is fanta orange - just cracked open a 20yr special edition to say f u to mamparra-phosa.

I'm doing my utmost trying to figure out why you post in this thread?

Another ridiculous regulation which shows just how backwards thinking authorities in this country are  I would understand if you were importing hundreds or thousands of the same item at a time but someone who imports a few of one item shouldn't need to register as an importer.

I thought it was R50k in total, but either way, it's not clearly worded in the regulations.

Registering as in importer is free and takes about 5 minutes if you have all the documents (then a few weeks for them to process it and send you your importers code which is valid in perpetuity). I did it in 2018 because I was importing a lot of bike parts (for personal use, not as a business venture).

I think the calendar year refers to Jan - Dec but I could be wrong.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement of the original black bottle? Price preferably under R600? The slight peaty flavour was amazing.

What does that have to do with my question?

Your statement is 100% correct of course, but has no relevance on the posts I'm referring to.
IDK man I'm just trying to salvage the situation here :D

Have you tried Bells Special Reserve or Johnny Walker Double Black? Both are way under R600, and both are surprisingly good offerings with a hint of smoke in the back.
