I recently bid and won some bottles on auction through Scotch Whisky Auctions (https://www.scotchwhiskyauctions.com/). I had so many questions as part of the process, and now that I have been through it I thought I would share what I have learned.
I won 6 bottles with a total shipping weight of 12kgs.
Total bid price: R18,215 (68.6% of total cost)
Commission (10%): R1,821 (6.9% of total cost)
DHL shipping fees: R2,736 (10.3% of total cost) - includes the 3% insurance option
Import duties: R3,765 (14.2% of total cost)
Total cost: R26,537.
So in simple terms the "bid price" to "final delivered price" is roughly a multiple of around 1.5 times.
Their packaging was UNREAL. Boxes were folded flat and bottles were shipped in these compressed air cylinder shaped packages. The risk of damage is very low imo.
Anyways - just caring and sharing.
