White mischief

well you get what you paid for, i had a pair or wireless headphones once not those crappy infra ones RF ones.sadly they broke when i sat down on them one day...ooops:D

When did the MyBB news section turn into a personal review page? :D
:D I certainly respect Mr Kelly's views on these matters - I think we should get him a better headset for Christmas :)

Don't the more expensive Bose types actually adjust the white noise to compensate for the outside noise? Should work a lot better then.

This thread is racist! :p
Seriously though... noise cancelling is caused by creating noise?
Weird... so the noise cancelling is actually effected by your own ears? Thats bizarre!

The better noise cancelling headphones (Bose, Sennheiser) eliminate background noise by playing inverse sound waves, not by playing a hissing noise. Unfortunately they are designed to only cancel out background noise and not the annoying voices of your colleagues! Therefore totally useless in an open plan office. I recommend getting a good pair of Bose phones for R1200 that totally cover your ears. Comfy, and they block out most noise. AND your colleagues can't hear you playing your Celine Dion!

Yes - nice for the aeroplane too... and get one of those adapters they sell at the tech shop at ORTIA so you can use them with the plane sound system.

Excuse me? R4000 for something that generates white noise? The stuff people would have instead of money!!

...Noise-cancelling headphones work on the principle that they produce a low level of "white" noise - which would sound like a hissing sound if you were in a quiet environment - to cancel out noise produced in your environment...

Any noise-canceling that works by generating white noise, is NOT noise-canceling... It is perhaps noise-overriding, but not canceling.

This is a classic example of you get what you pay for.

So what is noise cancelling? And what is it for?

I got a pair of ear protectors from http://www.protecear.co.za/ about a year ago and must say it's been a good investment.

They make the protectors from your ear impressions made from a foam like substance that they injected into your ears to get the impression.

Living with Tinnitus can be a nightmare sometimes but I just pop these in my ear when I go to bed when the ringing gets out of control.
