who is actually getting a ps3?

Makro. I always get my cell contracts there. They have sweet deals...

Whats the price of the 360 with all the extras you have to buy, to get it wifi, hdd (cable is extra?), etc.

Hmm not sure how you missed my statement on minimum required to play games but here goes anyway....

PS3 + 1 Controller + 1 Game
R6299 + R469 + R486 (revolution) = R7254 (Kalahari.net)

Xbox 360 Pro + 1 Controller + 1 Game + WiFi Adaptor
R3699 + R363 + R499 (GOW) + R835 = R5396

Currently the HD-DVD add on is not officially available here so the PS3 is ahead there with the Blu-Ray. The PS3 also needs an extra HDMI cable to plug into a HD-TV and the Xbox 360 does not so the 360 wins here? Maybe?

So the Xbox is still the cheaper option in SA or did I miss something?

I got the Pro 360 on a R144 pm cell contract.

Am seriously thinking of getting one of htese contracts even though I already have two others and I absolutely do not need it. Maybe I should take out the contract and see what happnes to a sim card when youput it in the microwave. Sell the phone that it comes with and bob's your uncle.....but whats the maths...how many months is hte contract and how much does the 360 pro package cost?

I don't think they're offering this special anymore, Nate.

NOOOO!!!!! As they say "He who hesitates...mastrub4tes!! Guess I'm a mastrub4tor then...lets keep an I eye out for the PS3 specials. When that comes out, I will get an contract and instead of nuking the sim card will see what happens when you microwave the PS3!!! :D

You dont need the wifi adapter for the 360 so make that R4561

Good luck fitting the PS3 in any microwave :p

Mmm, the PS3 is not THAT much more expensive than the 360 afterall...

Hey if you add in the HD-DVD player I think it ends up more expensive. Don't forget it has a bigger HDD as well...

What I think M$ did well though is that all those are optional extras where the PS3 doesn't give you a choice..

Oh and the 360's got rumble ;)

You may be right. The big advantage about the XBox though is that you can choose some of your extras. Sony gives you all or nothing whil Microsoft allows you to buy only what you use (I never thought I'd say that about Microsoft). I, for example, have no interest (yet) in blue-ray or HD-DVD and I don't like being forced to pay extra for a technology I probably won't use for at least 2 years.

lol, but remember you can always just change the hraddruve in the ps3 to something more beeffy like a 120gig sata, but the ps3 could have gone a more user friendly route. the funny thing is that the guys at sony will soon iron out the problems of the ps3's software and if not... there's always linux if you hate the ps3's system

And you can hook a 360 up to Home Server and have a Terabyte or more at your disposal, what's your point?

I think Scotty's been smoking fanboy cookies this morning. . .

lol if I wanted a linux box I would go and spend R3000 on hardware and install linux on it... I personally don't want a computer in the lounge....

yea because people much rather smoke cookies then eat them... and um... well how many people have home serves? or wait better yet how many people would know how to hook it all up... you must remember that the console is 90% of the time not linked to peoples computers and stuff... but theres a cunning resion for sony having the abliaty to put linux on it's system... and its the fact that the ps3 is classified as a "computer" and not as an electronic device because of taxation... computers are taxed lower then other electronic devices...
