Just got a mail from them.

hmmm, add another R3k and you have a top end gaming PC...

bt you'll need a R10k Tv to play PS3 properly, dnt forget R600 games & accessories.

I was refering to spiderz post about PC.

Yeah but by the same logic you'd still need those things to enjoy the Xbox properly as well.

yeah all next gen systems( - the wii) need to the following to be used to the fullest
a) HDTV
b) Surround Sound
c) Broadband Internet

I think the main argument about pricing revolves around the minimum required to enjoy gameplay...

360 Core - R2500 + R500 game = R3000
PS3 - R6299 + R500 game = R6799

It's all good and well that the PS3 has more hardware (Blu-Ray, WiFi, HDD) but when you are talking about casual gamers that R3799 is a huge amount for very little extra that they care about...

The only problem I see (for the 360), and it's one I'm certain that will play out here in SA, is that for South African casual gamers "TV games" (lol) = Playstation. Period. They want a Playstation, they lack the mental facilities to make an informed decision re. the merits of the 360/Wii vs the PS, SK will market the crap out of PS3 and the masses will buy it.

As usual in this world of ours, ignorance will prevail.

Had an interesting discussion with a "non-affiliated" part time gamer on the PS3/360 issue. He made a very good point (we were looking at an ad for the PS3)

Most South Africans are blissfully unaware of the existence of the Xbox, they've grown up on PS3 and now "version 3" is coming out. If you don't know any better, you look at the games catalogue and it's got something to suit most gamers. The only baulking point is the price on face value. The PS3 will quite likely dominate South Africa, if through nothing else but ignorance.

The 360's opportunities is going to be getting in at the "WTF!" moment the consumer hears the price.

Hehe, the 360 comes even "cheaper", my friend got his on a cell contract, so he spent R400 for the pay in, R300 for a memory card and it came with a game ;)
