Why does Telkom still exist?

Why don't we have an alternative landline provider in South-Africa? Seriously... Telkom is so bad they would lose half their clients in the first month.

Let me tell you about my little adventure recently. Started the conversion of our ADSL line about 1 and a half months ago, ever since it started nobody can call us. It says our number does not exist. After countless of hours and days reporting faults and calling them literally every day they said all was OK and the issues are resolved. Yeah right... when you try to call our number it says the number does not exist.

I then contacted Telkom multiple times again and started the process all over again and it turns out that it is a problem at our exchange. So the guy said he will mark my issue as resolved because they need to fix it at the exchange and they will send a team of guys to do that.

I called again today to ask what is going on because it has been a while... they have no record of any faults and no changes are going to be made... the stupid person that answered the phone that sounded like she didn't care about anything in life and were about to fall asleep told me that a change like that can take months.... months... yes... months.

Nice. FU Telkom. It makes me angry because you have no other choice... why does Hellkom still exist?

I must say I'm ****ing disgusted at them myself.

My line has been disconnecting ever since they introduced their stupid auto syncing system. My 10meg ran as smooth as butter before that. Did a port recreate now and see that my router is syncing me at 8meg. That's retarded. I'm sorry. I know for a fact that my exchange and line can handle me on a 10meg so why the unfair drop? I was on a 10meg for almost two years goddammit how do you expect me to be fine with a 2meg downgrade. Na-uh. With the money we pay we deserve upgrades not the exact ****ing opposite.

Sorry for the rant but Telkom is a POS.

I seem to get pretty good service from Telkom lately. I complained about them in the past (And I used to work for them long time ago, hence my forum name). But lately my experience with them has been good, just wish they rolled out fibre in my area.

Not too long ago I had a problem on Sunday morning, Telkom came out on Sunday morning, investigated found a veld fire burned some cables. He fixed it before eleven and I was up and running.

I had far worse service from most of the cellular companies.

People might loath Telkom, but I think they have jacked up, but if you really want. Try at your own risk the other fixed line operator Neohell.

Telkom isn't perfect, but they have massive challenges

- The country is massive, and sparsely populated.
- Massive expenditure with very little return. South Africans are cheap, and most just go for the cheapest option.

Look at the FTTH thing as an indication of how things are done - these new companies are targeting complexes and small suburbs at a time that has a high sign up count first. Telkom has no option but to roll out everywhere should 1 person want that feature.

It's not easy.

I recently moved and had to go through a land line reinstall and ADSL install. Must admit Telkom where very efficient, al, everything went through without an issue. Not saying am happy to be paying for a land line when I just use ADSL but overall their service was very good.

Happy Telkom customer for last 10+ years. Contrary to general perceptions, I have found them to be quite efficient.

Telkom is a joke, when you are a monopoly you can do what ever the fsck you want.
