By that logic every webpage I'm accessing from my phone is also "extracting benefit [...] without investing".
 
I wonder how they plan on regulating Tor messenger in a few years time when we've all moved to it to escape this nonsense.
 
This seems to be cropping up in a few places - India and more recently Italy had the same "Regulate Whatsapp" type calls.

You will probably see it starting to happen sooner than later, lots of governments (and other people that would make these regulate calls) would have investments in cellphone companies and will be looking after their own interests.

Now that SMS has gone the way of the dinosaur, they want to find a way to rip people off again.
 
Will this apply to news24, takealot, supersport, showmax, vidi etc?

Or are you lot suggesting that only communications companies be regulated? The moment voice traffic moves over IP you want those packets to be surcharged, but other packets are fine? If MNOs start building websites for your corporate customers are you going to run to the regulators asking for regulated protection from competition?

Why not grow some balls and implement the additional charges yourselves instead of trying to offload balance sheet protection to regulators? Are you fighting for fixed line ISPs to be able to charge more for voice traffic? If so, not in my name. If not, what makes your network special?

Also, just so we're clear: on the one hand you argue that you're not the internet police who have to proactively report p2p downloaders, but on the other you feel it necessary to lobby for voice packets to be policed?

So p2p packets: not your problem. Voice packets: please police those, Mr regulator...
