Hi guys

I have a problem with my WiFi network at home. I connect to the network (Netgear ADSL-WiFi router), can see the other comps etc. but can not connect to the net. No problems from my other laptop or from the other PC’s…just this one.

Any ideas?

Regards,

RPM

rpm, I am not too familiar with the Netgear WiFi routers, but is it not perhaps some kind of security / allowed mac addresses or ip's type issue?

You said you are able to get to the other systems on your network from this one, so wifi is working, internet is not... so its either a security or a routing issue...

If you've set up your AP to do DHCP, make sure your PC is getting the correct IP and gateway settings, or perhaps you've manually configured its IP?

Yeah, check that the pc is set to DHCP. If you can see the other pcs then its not a security issue.

Had this with the wife's work laptop, couldn't surf wireless, but could see the others and be seen, gave up (you don't play around with company network settings too much :D) and connected via CAT5, no probs since

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback…solved the problem. The schmuck that used my laptop changed the TCP/IP settings…changed it back and works again.

If you notebook can see the other PC's, but not surf the internet, it's one of two things:
1) Your notebook does not use DHCP (Like other people also said) or it is using DHCP, but didn't get an default gateway assigned. The default gateway is very important, and in some rare cases a pc will get an IP but not a DGW from the router.

2) Your DNS settings are not set to auto. IE, you will be able to ping IP's on the internet, but not domain names (ping 196.25.1.1, but not able to ping www.google.co.za) Set your DNS settings to auto, if this still doesn't work, type in in manually, use these DNS servers: 196.25.1.11 and 196.43.1.11. Good luck!
