Windows 7 out in 18 months

I watched a few Window Surface videos... its frieking AWESOME!. Amazing stuff. I don't have the links with me, but you should see the kiosk demo they have.

Edit : About the Mac OS thingy... if people demand it.. why not. Everyone copies from everyone...
 
and also... no new kernel. There were rumours of a more stripped down kernel with modular systems and interfaces for different contexts and applications, but it is just going to be more Vista bloat.

I find myself using and loving Ubuntu and Kubuntu more and more every day.

Sorry MS... you lost a die hard devotee when you dumped that crap infested Vista defecation on us.
 
lol, i see, vista really might have been that one thing that destroys the whole of MS, I mean, how can you release a newer os so soon after vista had been released? I mean, no one is using vista anyway,

If they are not desperate, they should be... the critically poor reception of Vista should at least send them back to the drawing board... and the failure to acquire Yahoo should have them strategising for how to take on Google in a significant way or else that market dominance will be no more. Firefox is also starting to eat into their browser dominance.

At the last tech ed here they had a vid of their plans for the future... unbelievable foresight. Looks like they moving big time into the mobile hardware arena.

Cant do that... all the vendors are just getting their drivers inline. People seem to forget that a PC is not like a Mac, you cant just change the OS and have complete control over the drivers. A PC's hardware comes from many vendors who are required to write their own drivers. Everytime there is a major architectural change in a PC OS you get everyone moaning about their PC's not working. This is mostly the vendors fault.

I got an ol copy of linux (was recent back in the day) slapped it on my lappy, wouldnt detect half my hardware (DX 9 was just released and graphics hardware had some major architectural changes at the time, ditto with the wireless)

Nah, the table concept works off 2 high res stereo vision cameras.
You can scan a doc off it by simply placing it on the table too.
2 cameras looking at a plane will have a point converge when it touches the plane. Because of this you can cheaply produce a multi touch surface with an infinate amount of contact points. They see this as a prodominant PC for homes in the future since it is like a coffee table in the lounge. Not so much intended for mobile devices.

You should see the vid... really impressive. I think some student at MIT came up with the original concept.
